Default Vacation update.

Saturday I got out for some fishing and it was a slow day. I managed to pick up 9 bass, all dinks except one. Saturdays bass is the first photo. Monday we spent in Michigan exploring wineries and Three Oaks Michigan. Tuesday we spent the day riding our bikes at Potato Creek State Park and walking the trails, a picnic and such. Potato Creek can be a very good fishing lake, but we left the fishing gear at home that day. It was cool and windy but a beautiful day. More pics of that to come. Today, we got out to do a little fishing. It was terribly windy and cool. Much of the day we were wearing gloves. The sun helped when it was out, but the wind just killed ya and made boat handling almost impossible. Posted a few of my wife and I. She caught a nice one right off the bat. About a 2 1/2 pounder. Sorry, no pic of her holding it, only of her catching it. She wouldn't take her gloves off to hold the fish. haha I ended the day with another about the same size. Altogether we caught 7 bass. A very slow day, but we had a good time despite the numerous problems we had mainly due to the wind. Nothing like a 35mph wind to take a crankbaits cast and whip it off course and into a pontoon, ect. But all in all, we had a good time. Tomorrow, were off to the apple orchard.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the vacation and getting some fishing done! That 5th pic where all the brush lay downs are looks like a haven for bass!

Those brush laydowns do look awsome, but seriously, in all the years I've fished this lake, I've only caught 2 or 3 bass there. The brush is right against the shore and it's less than a foot deep mostly. Nice grass beds in front of it too. Funny I don't have more success at that spot. Now just down from that location is a laydown near a drop off and thats a good spot for sure!

Thanks for the update, Keith. Sounds like you're having a good time even if the fishing days are slow. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Jigs, Senkos, topwaters, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, small worms, large worms, I've done it all there. They just don't hang there much. The only time I've had any success there is early spring when water level was high. I think the problem is there is better habitat nearby that draws them away from the bushes. It's just a few inches deep there, while just one cast away to the north there are trees laying in 6-8 foot of water with weedbeds . Thats where you find the bass.
