Talking Finally!!!! New PB (pics)

I decided to go to my boss' lake AFTER work instead of at lunchtime. I caught 10 LM bass over the whole evening. The first few were around a pound and then I landed a nice 2 pounder. After catching 9 bass, I decided to walk all the way around to the other side. I was fishing all along the bank and not one bite. I was about to go home and decided to cast one more time.

Instead of casting along the bank, I spied a floating fountain that was not on. I normally cannot reach it from the bank but it was a little closer this time. I cast a little 4.5" bullfrog finesse worm and it landed right next to it. As it sank to the bottom, I saw the line move so I set the hook like there was no tomorrow. The fish started to immediately take drag so I knew she was at least 3 pounds. As I got her close to the bank, she took off toward the middle of the pond (about 250 feet). My reel was singing. I then knew she was bigger than 3 pounds. I fought her for about 5 minutes and I finally got her close enough to the bank to see just how big she was. I then began to pray that she didn't shake the hook.

After about 5 more minutes of pulling her to the bank and her taking out drag, she finally tired. I pulled her onto the bank and the hook popped out!!!!! Her tail was still in the water!!!! I jumped towards her and grabbed her in the mouth just in time.

She weighed in right at 6 lbs 8 oz. I finally broke the 5 pound mark!!!!

Man that is a HAWG!! Great job on the PB, that thing looks like it was FAT. Did you get a length on her? She looks like she could be only 19 or 20 inches and weigh 6 1/2. GOOD JOB

She was 19.5" long and 20.5" girth. She was definitely a fat one.

I got a couple more pictures with my face in them but this one is my favorite. All the other pictures do not do the bass justice.

That is one very nice fish!

Why do I feel some sort of validation now as a bass fisherman?

Holy smokes. Thanks for sharing your story. I like hearing stories about others fishing expeditions. A lot of times, even a slow day has a story to tell.

No one at work would have believed me with the size of the bass if I lost it at the bank. My boss and his brothers didn't think they had 5 lb + bass in their pond.

I put her back. I would like my son to have a chance to catch her next year when she is 7 lbs.
