Hey, nice fish. You ever catch a white catfish??? I understand that they have a couple more spines on one set when compared to channel cats. Can't remember which.

Whites have just about dissapeared in the Potomac. The netters get them in the feeder creeks by the ton and the blues eat the young since they grow slowly.
Darn nice to get a white now and then.. The three on saturday where whites. They bite pretty good all the time but the 9/0 circle hooks keep the small fish off. Capt Mike

White Catfish
description To 24" (62 cm); 19 lb (8.6 kg). Moderately robust. Back dark to pale bluish gray; sides lighter, no scattered dark spots; chin barbels yellowish to white; no dark blotch at dorsal fin base; adipose fin dusky to black. Posterior edge of pectoral fin spine without strong serrations; anal fin rounded, with 22–25 rays; caudal fin moderately forked. Channel cat Description Ictalurus is Greek and punctatus is Latin, meaning "fish cat" and "spotted", respectively. Channel catfish are easily distinguished from all others, except blue catfish, by their deeply forked tail fin. Unlike flathead catfish, the upper jaw projects beyond the lower jaw. Coloration is olive-brown to slate-blue on the back and sides, shading to silvery-white on the belly. Typically, numerous small, black spots are present, but may be obscured in large adults. The anal fin has 24-29 soft rays, in contrast to the blue catfish which always has 30 or more rays in the anal fin. VA record is 7lbs 6oz. I could not find a MD record. MD record channel is 27.92 lbs. |
