Alex Langer's Flying Lure
I have the flying lure with a spinner bait. Has anyone used this and does it work like they say on tv it does. I have never tried it.

I had some when they came out, actually does exactly what they advertise, it goes away from you as you pull it up and down, however its no magic lure like the informercial claims..man, they played the dogsh*t out of that commercial for years..

Well, strange to tell, but true.
I was given a Flying Lure(TM) kit as a Christmas gift circa the mid-80s. The "backwards flying" jig with the kinda spatulate head DID, in fact, serve me well when I used it penetrate the waters beneath docks and ledges. Actually, I did even better when I flattened some big tube lures and used those in lieu of the skirts that came with the lures. "Flattened tubes?", you ask. Yes, I actually sandwiched tubes in foil, then set a very warm iron on the package and left them to almost melt for a while. I inserted the Flying Lure jighead, carefully bringing the hook out of what formerly was the front of the tube. Voila! I now had flat tubes that would glide away, nose and hook leading the way, in a gentle spiral or in an almost straight line...it was all random. Until I found some other crackpot idea to perfect, in about six months, I caught a fair number of bass with the contraption. I even caught a few on the Flying Lure spinner bait. FR |

I've used the flying lure and didn't like it. My father-in-law fishes a lot and he has them. They suck for him except for when we go down to Shasta Lake. Some how the fish down there seem to go for them.
I think you got to give them a try and decide what you like. Most people don't like those "Original Fishing Snakes" but I like them....it's the same type of thing...most think of them as gimmicks. |

I got a kit from my granddad for Christmas in 1991. In 20 years I've never caught anything on the 4" and 6" sizes, but I've caught so many fish, especially largemouths and crappie, on the 2" ones that when I find them in a store I clean them out. I even caught my personal best spotted bass on one when nothing else would work (I tried nightcrawlers, crawdads, and about 15 different lures over the course of about 4 hours before I finally got him to hit). The fish hit 4 different times and I either missed him or he jumped and spit it the first 3 times before I finally landed him.
