Talking MMB! Happier than a pig in.................

MMB - Major Monkey Business, or Major Monkey Bite, but I'm happier than Ralphie when he got his Red Ryder BB gun. My second Humminbird SI unit (1197) arrived today - and I am blown away. Now there will be 'birds at the bow and the helm. I've been mulling this over for almost 4 months. Bought the 798cSI unit last Nov and have been reading the manual and trying to convince myself to go for another, bigger unit and get rid of the smaller Lowrance units.

Well, I have a couple friends that have the big 'birds, and they have been helpful in pushing me over the edge. One, is one of our locals - No Fear Engineer - and he was helpful with some of his technical over-the-top input, not really but I wouldn't want to stain his "BF.com" image. It's been an interesting trip, now they're here and I can't wait for some warm weather to visit, so I can get started on the install.

Just wanted to say thanks to Bryce, this was a purchase that I know will make my fishing more productive and I did find his imput helpful, although I think he is secretly in cahoots with the dastardly Bait Monkey.

The water is still hard here, but when in warms up and I get the install done, I'll post some pictures of the install and when I figure out how to do the screen prints, post some actual pictures of the side imaging. Meanwhile I'll be reading the manuals trying to learn an entirely new system (over Lowrance).

Thanks Bryce!

I hope the 1197 improves you fishing more than it did Bryce's!

Seriously though, congrats of the fun new toys!

I'm still trying to convince my dad we need to upgrade to a 798 or an 800 series with SI.

Well you can have him step outside at Wheeler.
Bryce and I can give him a demo, I'd be happy to do that and earn some Monkey commision.
Bryce has the big 1197, I've got the 798 & 1197 so you can get a feel for the big difference the screen size really means.
This may be an important consideration (screen size) when you start splitting the screens for the various views.

I think I should be part of this "I'll Buy Anything Club" or at least the "If I Could Afford To" chapter of it!

You're IN! I think we can develop membership levels. Entry level of Silver for those guys not yet infected with full blown Monkeyitis, Gold for me and NFE will probably get the only PLATINUM membership. Now if I didn't have a wife that keeps me somewhat reined in You may be in trouble you do realize you are staying in the "Tackle 'ho Lodge" at Wheeler? You might possibly catch a much more serious case of Monkeyitis while there.

One neat thing you will find is while transducers dont always work between models the power cords etc all have the same plug connections, even a Piranha, will work in their place.
Should you actually match transducers on the models never ever having to mount another as long as its good, just replace the unit with another of same family.Or move around at will. All share same pin connector and many the same mount. The piranha having a different mount yet same connectors. And yes a cheaper low end piranha will work in the place of a more expensive unit on the fritz,or if you get a boat with the wiring but not the unit itself.
Hummingbird also has a place to put all your units under your name(your acct),model and serial number in case someone relieves you of them, then numbers are available online and no one else can regester them,or have worked on.

If you read this Bryce, I got that RAM mount today at BPS - what a freakin' beast that thing is. I have a couple RAM mounts that are NOT on steroids, but this thing is, well you know. No wonder it's $120, but you have to be correct, it ain't going to move.

The good thing is.....it doesn't look too big next to an 1197.

They kind of compliment each other. but one thing ive noticed is they make a boat seem much smaller
