Default New Toys!!

Well after a couple of days at the BPS Classic, i have a couple of new toys to play with! I wanted an ultra light-weight dropshot combo, so I bought the BPS Carbonlite 7'2" Medium Dropshot Rod, and paired that with the NEW Pflueger Patriarch Spinning Reel! The reel alone is just a little over 7 ounces. Let me tell you all it is a sweet combo and like holding air. It balances perfectly on the lock nut, and all in all th combo tips the scale at just a hair over 11 ounces!

I also picked up the usual tackle... jigs, crankbaits, line, and quite a few hooks as well! All in all the monkey got me for around $500 this time. Hopefully that keeps him down for a while!

Very nice Ryan, I had a hard decision between the spinning reel I bought and the Patriarch. I was going to go with the 5.6oz 9525 though.

The combo looks good, can't wait to hear how you like it. What are the specs on that rod?

I was going to get the 9530 but it seemed too small... I didn't think it would hold enough line (only about 100 yards of 8 lb.), so I went with the 9535... still extremely light for it's size and the 9535 holds 140 yards of 8lb. line

Specs on the Carbonlite DS rod are:
7'2" Medium Fast
4-12 lb.
1/8 - 1/2 oz.

The handle was not that long which I really liked... I was excpecting it to have a longer style of handle like the Crucial DS rods... I really like the feel of the rod and hope it performs as good as it looks!

Nice setup, I really like the Pflueger reels. Do they come with and extra spool, and if so what does it look like. I think you are going to have many days of fun fishing with that setup.

If you're fishing with FC, I can see where the 9530 or 9535 would be a better choice than the 9525. Those specs are very similar to the 7'2" Crucial, which is a great dropshot rod. The longer handle of the Crucial can get in the way sometimes.

I believe they do come with a spare aluminum spool. Not as nice as the original carbon spool, but better than no spool I guess.

Here are some pics of the spare spool as requested...

On another note, the spare spool is fitting very tightly on the shaft. It goes on with a lot of force and comes off with alot of force, but I don't think that it feels right. I will get a hold of Pflueger to see what they say...

He got you alright!!! I walked after spending $38 yesterday. Actually returned a battery charger and had picked up a new one but for the most part kept it light.

Zoom plastics - Magnum finesse worms GP/green and Mag II worms in Melon/red
Yum 7.5" GP/purple worms - Thought they were 10"
Chatterbaits - for a friend who wants me to customize them
Oil - 1 gallon - should have bought more
Hooks 2/0 XPS - thought I'd test them out buy 2 get 1 free
Suffix - Elite 12lb - if I buy another spool I can get the free t-shirt

She looks pretty, but can she dance?

Congrats on the new rod and reel Ryan. I can't wait to hear the reviews and see some more smallmouth pictures.

Always been a Quantum Rods guy, but they can keep their reels! They have a serious weight problem....

The reason for buying the CL rod was that Quantum doesn't make a high end spinning rod any more, and the 7' M Superlite I had was not balanced with that light of a reel at all. Balance point on the superlite was about 3 or 4 inches up the blank.

The Patriarch is replacing a Daiwa Exceler, and while it is still a smooth reel, I am replacing a 12 ounce reel with a 7.5 ounce reel...
