HDS8 -HDS5 Question
Well if you have been on the forum lately you may have been part of the great group of guys who are helping me with a new bass boat.
I have narrowed down the boat - PHOENIX. NOW....the electronics.... I want to get the Lowrance HDS8 in dash ($1,850) and the HDS5 in bow ($600) and was told I need to also buy the LSS-1 structure scan another $700 ?? Do I need the structure scan??? Anyone know about these please comment. Thanks! G-Man |

If your spending that kind of cash on boat , do yourself a favor and get the structure scan. Even if you dont need it.

Getting a HDS unit without structure scan is pointless. Get it.
You only want the 50/200 lHz transducer if you're ocean fishing (deep water). The 83/200 is what you want for freshwater (shallow). The choice of map is really hit and miss. You need to get on the website and figure out which map package is going to work the best for you. Certain bodies of water are included or not included with each map package, and it seems like none of them will totally fit what you want. (I think they do that on purpose so you have to buy more...just my theory.) On another note....maybe get a Humminbird SI unit instead.
