Chronarch D vs Revo Premier
I've decided to pull the trigger on a new baitcasting rod and reel combo. This will be an all purpose set up not only for smallies but also Walleye, Pike and even Lakers from time to time. I have my sights on either a Chronarch D (on sale at $240) or the Revo Premier 2010 (an exceptional deal at $180). I have used Chronarchs in the past (although not the D) and have pretty much been a Shimano guy but I'm hearing very good things about the Revo and at this price point it's pretty hard to resist. I'll be matching the reel with a GLoomis Magbass 783 GLX. I can't imagine I can go too far wrong with either choice but anyone had experience with both of those reels? I know its only opinion but that's what I'm after. Thanks.

I don't have any experience with either reel. I've almost pulled the trigger on Revos several times. The thing that keeps me from getting one is the way they are shaped. They get wider up at the front of the reel. This makes them not fit my hand quite right with the way I palm a reel.
I don't think I've heard too many complaints about Revos, or Chronarchs. Like you said, you probably can't go wrong either way, both should be awesome reels that will last you many years. It just comes down to which one feels best to you.

I don't think you could go wrong with either.
However, there is one more I'd add to the list to consider, if you can find one. And that's the Daiwa Zillion 50th. It beat out out the Chronarch (and a Revo, and a Quantum) for Tackle Tour's High Speed Shootout. Chronarch D Review Daiwa Zillion 50th High Speed Shootout Summary BB

The Chronarch is a very nice reel, anyone would be proud to own one. In a direct comparison between these two though, even at the same price, I would go with the Revo Premier. The fact that you have found the Premier considerably cheaper would be the icing on the cake. Both reels are very high quality. The Revo is about 1 full ounce lighter, but it has more bearings in locations that will make for a smoother feel. The Revo Premier has a 20 lb carbon fiber drag compared to the 11 lb dartanium drag on the shimano. You will like that 20lb carbon drag for the bigger fish you have listed. The biggest difference between the two is that shimano is still using their tried and true 6 pin centrifugal brake system. It's a good system, but the premier's dual infinni brake system is better. You will have more braking adjustment and the ability to cast virtually thumbs free in any conditions. I have the dual system on my 2010 STX reels and I would not want to go back to just a centrifugal system alone. Some of the JDM shimano reels have been offered with dual braking sytems and those reels are very popular. I would expect that shimano american will have to start offering dual brake reels soon, or be behind the times.
