Charlie Moore and Clear Lake
Did anyone see this morning episode? Clear Lake is my stomping ground. Damn cant wait for froggin. That is my #1 way to fish. I know you right coaster like topwater but if you havent tried a frog yet....I highly suggest you do.
I use a 7ft heavy with fast tip. Low pro baitcaster(all my baitcaster are old school curados) with 50 lb power pro. I have WAY to many frog. All same brand Snagproofs Perfect Frog. I met Bobby Barrick a few times(creator of Perfect Frog. A good buddy Scott Green designed the frog with yellow head Black body called yellow headed blackbird. Out here in summer froggin in the only way to go. Give it a try you guys will be "hooked". Have fun and Tight Lines!!!!!! |

Not a big frog fan myself. I will use a lizard much more often. I hate the hook ratio with frogs, even if you do everything right. I like mats, and hop my lizards, flukes, and other plastics just like a frog. I get more hits it seems(probably because they are lighter), and the hook up ratio is at least double for me with this technique. I know frogs work, and I do have a couple dozen or so, but I rarely throw them, if it's sparse grass, then a Floating lizard is the ticket for me.

The good or bad side depending on what you like, is they are a lot harder than a typicle plastic. So I really like to use the texposed rig on them, which IMO helps with the hook ups. Lizards

Dang, I had some of those a few years back and threw them away....your right, they are very firm, not your typical "soft" plastic. So you use a texposer hook then....but you don't skin hook it right?

I use texposer's too...I like their design for lots of soft plastics and I use smaller ones (2/0) on texas rigged worms and tubes. Good Luck with your fishin guys/gals.

I use the Horny Toad by Zoom. I have had a remarkable hook up ratio using this.......I fish with my rod held straight up in the air, when the strike occurs I point the tip at the strike and reel in at a normal pace. Feel the fish and set the hook like I'm trying to turn him inside out.

frog!!!!
hey Deacon,
I love fishing with frogs and topwater.I would say my hook -up ratio with a frog is 7 out of 10.timing is everything as you know.i wait about 2 seconds and then you bust'em.I made a list for the Bass Pro trip Jb and I our going on in about 2 weeks and I put Zoom's horny Toad on it.I can't explain how excited I get even when I watch a fishing show where there throwing topwater......WHAT a RUSH seeing them explode on the bait.Hi bassintxlady.Jb told me at work this morning that there was some new ladies on the site....welcome Good day from FREEZING OHio Denny |

4/0 or 5/0 hook will both work. The only difference is that a 5/0 hook will rest between the legs, a 4/0 will go through near the very back of the frog body. Personally, I like 4/0 because I like to have my hook through the bait instead of just being free between the legs.
Fishing a horny toad is LOTS of fun..you can fish it a million different ways, not just topwater, and fish seem to love it. When I fish it, I am usually hopping it on the bottom or swimming it under the surface...flippin and pitchin it works well. |

Sorry to get off-topic of this here thread, but last night I went and saw the Pat Metheny Trio at the State Theater here in Falls Church, VA. The drummer was Antonio Sanchez, and lemme tell ya...the guy is SICK! Pretty much shot right to the top of my list of favorites. Here's a cool video clip I found of him last night when I got home: http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/A...anchezmd2.html Check out that left foot! |
