A few more pics from Memorial Day week
I shared a few pictures from our first couple days of a week at the lake here. Below are a few pics of some of the better fish I caught the rest of the week, plus a few other random shots. It was a good week to start off the season. Just under 37 hours of fishing spread over 6 days produced 160 total fish for me -- 135 Largemouth, 11 Rock Bass, 7 Northern Pike, 4 Smallmouth and 3 Crappies. Not a lot of big fish -- only 4 LM over 3 pounds, but lots of good fighters in the 2+ pound range.
My friend Jeff is an avid cranker, but we could never really get a crankbait bite going. He did pretty well one morning with a chatterbait and we caught one on topwater every now and then, but since they really seemed to like plastics up in the shallows, we threw Zoomies most of the time. I caught 147 of my 160 fish using a Zoomie. It will be interesting to see how much things have changed when we get back up there tomorrow afternoon for a 3-day stay with my brother-in-law and his family. One of Boogieman's 3/8 ounce Minnow chatterbaits enticed this 2lb 3oz, 15" LM into inhaling it for a mid-afternoon snack on Tuesday. A few minutes later I picked up a nice 3lb 6oz, 17-incher on a Zoomie. Another 3lb 6oz LM came aboard on Friday morning. This one was 17.75" and also succumbed to a Zoomie. It was in the mid 40s and raining off and on during our last morning outing and we finally both got a 3-pounder in the same outing. Jeff has 2-13 and 3-4 LM and I have the biggest crappie I have ever seen in person (that wasn't in a Cabela's aquarium ) at 13.5" and 1-13 along with a 3-0 LM (both caught on a Zoomie). June 1st and I was wearing 3 layers underneath the rain jacket -- yikes! And a few non-fish pictures from the week... Sunset view from our campfire Early morning raindrops Sunrise Not sure what this pose from the loon in our No Wake Zone channel meant... Last edited by WatterBoy; 06-07-13 at 10:46 AM. |

Loons often assume that position after a night of binge drinking...
Nice fish, especially that crappie - that's a bigun' fo' sure. Another 1/2" in length and you would have had to have it mounted and hang it on the cabin wall. Oh, and thank you for the plug I like hearing from guys that catch fish on one of my lures. Great start to the season. |

Once again, great pics Dean. Judging from the way your dog is licking it's chops in that second photo, I think it's looking forward to fried bass!
