Cruising bass

I fished a 5 acre pond today. I must have spotted 10 or more very large bass swimming along just slightly under the surface. I also saw small bass on a few beds. The big ones would not touch anything I threw at them. Neither did any bass for that matter. I couldn't believe the size of the bigger fish. If I'd say maybe 8lbs or more I wouldn't be wrong. I couldn't believe it. I will be going back again to try for these big mamas. I threw jigs, spinners, worms, plugs, buzzbaits, creatures, horny toads, everything I had. I know if I saw them they saw me but they wouldn't hit anything even when I threw away from their line of sight. Any thoughts?

had it happen to me about 3 weeks ago and today. cant say why. the fish were big to, not the one today it was snall but still. they would not even turn and look, i hit the one today on the head with a small jig it did not do anything but go i liitle deeper and then came back up.
just one of those things i guess.
hope ya get one of those hawgs.

If it is like the lake up here then my only guess is that if you saw them then they saw you too. I went out a couple days ago and found some bass but I spooked them. I went back out today for panfish and when we drifted back into that area I tossed over there from a great distance. Success! Had the big one take it:

Other than that I have heard that hitting them with a tube or something will make them mad and then they will hit the bait.

Bob, sometimes they just flat won't bite. I once sent at least an hour trying to get one to hit with no success.

Last year I had just bought some snake baits and went to try them out. I was fishing from shore on ponds that were about 10 acres.

As I retrieved the snakes, a lot of small to medium curious fish started milling around in the area I was fishing. They would follow and even touch my bait all the way back to me.

After a few minutes, very large bass came in and started feeding on everything but my snake. I quickly retied but by then it was over.

I put the snake on again and the same thing happened again.

It was fun to watch the bass eat but frusrating to not be able to catch them.

Wow that would be an amazing sight.

My guess is spawn from your location is going on. During spawn even the greatest anglers in the world can get stumped on those big girls. Wait to see them "ON" the beds. Then you "MIGHT" have a chance at getting them to bite, like I said "MIGHT".

And one other thing that I've learned... if the fish are moving, they're not biting. At least that's pretty much a good rule for around here.

I had a couple days like that recently. It is super frustrating, but awesome to see that the big girls are there. I have to agree with dead sticking Senkos. I've also stuffed tubes with pieces of Gulp! and let them sit more than twenty minutes before getting a strike.

i agree with the senko. The main thing is to not let the fish see you.
Trick worms in neutral colors are good too.
