Default BPS Pro Qualifier or Abu Garcia Revo S?

Since Bass Pro Shops can’t make up their mind about how much they want to sell the Johnny Morris Signature Series baitcaster for, I’ve decided to remove it from my final End-Of-Year Bait Monkey Blow Out.

So I’m trying to decide between the Pro Qualifier and the Abu Garcia Revo S. The challenging part is that I have a Berkley Bionix casting rod already for the Pro Qualifier (PQ), but I can get Revo in a All-Star rod combo for $149.00 at Dicks. So I can get the PQ alone for $80.00, or get the Revo combo for $149.00.

What would you guys do and why?

Im still waiting to know how your getting the PQ for $80.00??..lol.

The Revo and All star rod combo sounds like a slick deal...I really like the All star rods, even the cheapies have handle all my BS on the water...Is that the classic series rod?
And I cant say enough good things about the Revos...Both,I would buy again.

The Pro Qualifiers are on clearance b/c they have new models coming out. I bought two last week at my local bass pro. I got the 7.1 and the 6.4 versions. They had to get the 7.1 from another store, but I already have it. They were both 80 bucks. I had a couple revo s reels and like the pro qualifiers better. Dkeys

Thumbs up

I'd go for the revo at that price with the combo! The revo is all ready a good deal at 120. At 140 for a combo with an all star rod, I'd pick one up for sure!!

I have to agree. And as nice as a PQ reel is, the Revos are tough and very hard to beat. Even without the megnetic breaking system on the Revo S, I have never had any trouble with backlashes. And the drag system of the Revo, PQ's can't even compete.

I also saw that the PQ's come in 4.7 and 5.2 model... here is what I do not understand...the 4.7 and the 6.4 both have 29" of line retrieved per turn, and the 5.2 and the 7.1 both have 29" retrieve. Anybody have an explanation for this?

Ryan

Ryan, retrieve rate is based upon more than the gear ratio. Yes, the spool may turn 5.2 per revolution of the handle, but what is the diameter of the spool?

Assuming the manufacturer didn't just goof with their numbers, the 5.2 reel would have a spool 1.77 inches wide, and the 4.7 would have a spool 1.96 inches wide.

I just returned a Revo S. I expected more, but it was not a bad reel. I like being able to adjust the brake myself, the revo was in internal automatic brake. I personally still like my 3 year old viento.
