Default First bass of 2012...

I made the 2 hour drive to Iowa after work today and my dad and I got out for 90 minutes of fishing tonight. He caught a dink right after we got there for his only fish of the night. About an hour later I put on a Pop-R and caught a nice 4lb 2oz, 18.5" LM on my first cast with it. I am now officially on the 2012 bass board with a count of ONE! We plan to get out and give it another shot tomorrow.

We did really well on buzzbaits a couple weeks ago here in NE Kansas. It's crazy to be tossing topwaters and getting blasted in March! Normally they're just now starting to hit spinnerbaits reeled slowly by now, never caught them on topwater this early! Looks like you made good use of your limited time though!

Yep, always thankful for time spent with any family, especially my parents. Being able to still fish with my dad is definitely time to be cherished.

Went back to the lake this morning in cold, very windy conditions. I got skunked, but my dad landed a nice 17" LM that weighed 3lb 14oz.

Went to some gravel pits for a couple hours late in the afternoon. Dad got another nice one on his 5" T-rigged senko -- 3lb 14oz again and 17.5" this time. I caught 3, all on a jig & pig, the biggest of which went 3lb 2oz.

Not sure if we'll get out again tomrrow before I need to head back home, but it's already been a great weekend either way!

Now if bassboss and coldbasser can get out.....I think we can all be back to doing what we know best....ok, you guys know best.
Thanks for the share Dean!
Mallen, you've gotten out, right?

Dean, must be great to get your first bass of the year on a Pop'R'.

Yep, and it was totally unexpected since I'd only had one bite all night on everything non-topwater that I threw, and on my first cast with it also!

Here are the pics from Saturday and Sunday:

Dad with a 3-14 from Saturday a.m. at the lake:

And another 3-14 from Saturday p.m. at the gravel pits:

My 3-2 at the gravel pits:

And I nailed a 3-9 using a jig & pig at the lake on my last cast of the trip on Sunday right before we had to leave for lunch:

A buddy of mine got me this t-shirt at BPS in Orlando when he was there on vacation a couple months ago.

Sounds like an awesome weekend Dean. Glad you were able to get out and wet a line before the season opens in Minnesota.
