i think a bass eats an artificial bait cause it is not something they see all the time. it is new and different to them. when you add scent, it makes it more inticing.

I think bass will hit an artificial lure because there is no reason not to (that he knows of). Bass are well-equipped to capture, swallow, and digest almost every living thing they run into on or under water, as long as it's small enough to fit in their mouth (and even that doesn't stop them sometimes). They eat fish, frogs, snakes, rodents, birds, trains, planes, and automobiles...you get the idea.
So while most people believe you should match the local forage (I'm one of them), it isn't strictly required, as a lot of the times, as long as you just get the bass' attention, he may strike it anyway. You're right, the bass probably knows that day-glo orange crankbait isn't normal. But unless he's been hooked before by something that looks exactly like it, he's probably open to the possibility of devouring it.

I donīt believe in matching my baits to whatever the fish may eat where they live, I believe that as long as the bait moves and looks like something edible, "alive" and an easy prey a bass will strike it.

I think my girl thinks Bass are like humans. I have always heard it said that Bass fishing, as with all types of fishing is a skill game, and you need to have the right skill set to give the fish enough of a reason to bite. whereas she thinks it's pure luck and all fishing equipment is the same also that bass will only bite when they're hungry. So, my response to this is that I feel that if a Bass sees a lure, or bait, and the fisher has enough skill to make it presentable to the point that the bass can't resist, he will eat anything.

I wasn't referring to rewards, more along the lines of the right tools and skills for the job at hand....minus the hand....you got rewarded? Ferris Bueller....you're my hero.....

I don't know about the Artificial scents, but i know that my scented artificial softbaits work great under most conditions for the Bass i have caught....most times i only have the bait in the water for a few seconds or more and i'm getting bit....mind you this, so far, has been my only method of successful catches, but i have tried lures and softbaits with a strong scent seemed to work for me...also, we recently tried Salmon Eggs with a strong Garlic scent.....those seem to work too
