Half and Half knot...

I remember learning in boy scouts the half hitch was and is a strong knot. If you look at the breaking strength test link in the article it seems to be a strong knot. I've tried de-cyphering the pictures and the article on how to tie it. I'm gonna have to wait for the video.

Hahahaha, I was coming here to post this exact thing. Great minds think alike!

It looks super easy to tie, I think they could have used something a little easier to see than a weird shaped jug for demonstration purposes though. If the people from Sunline Japan are using this knot with their fluoro, I would tend to believe it's pretty good. The Japanese are very detail oriented with their fishing.

Basically, you tie a series of half hitches, reversing the direction the tag end goes through the loop each time. In other words, the tag end will be pointed at you as it passes through and then pointed away from you. I think it will makes sense once you try to tie it.

Breaking strength of this knot comes from two points of the line gripping the tackle and sharing the stress exerted on the line as the Trilene and Palomar knots do. All those half hitches are to keep the "grip" on the tackle from loosening and appear more complicated to accomplish than either the Trilene or Palomar knots.

I got that part though, what I guess I'm confused about is whether or not you run through the loop and then start your hitches or if somehow the hitches cinch down against the loop o.O

I'm gonna go grab some 550 cord and mess around with it...LOL!

Alright, cut me up some 550 cord and grabbed a bait bucket and messed around with it for a bit. With a smaller diameter line I can where this would work. Obviously with a larger diameter cord it looks like the loop could slip.

As you said though Joe, the Japanese are very articulate in the things they do. I lived in Japan (Okinawa) for a year and seen it when it comes to all things and not just fishing so I'll buy into it and definitely give it a shot.

Interesting. Like USMC said, Boy Scout knots. Looks like a tautline hitch topped with a 2-half hitch knot.

I use those two knots quite a bit. Never thought about using hem for a fishing knot. Going to have to try it.

I've been using a Eugene knot lately and have been very pleased with it. Added it to my arsenal along with a trilene knot and a palomar.

Reb,You made me go look up the Eugene knot.I've been using that knot for some time,didn't know they called it Eugene....

Yep, everything is good.I've peiced an aluminum boat together.It ain't all that and a bag of chips, but I've been catching some good fish from it.I'm glad to see some familiar people still lurking about...
