Default Spinning rod extension.

I forgot I had these pics from a stripping job I did on a BPS spinning rod..After Bassboss's post ,I thought I share some of the progression pics from it...I had more ,but cant seem to find them on this computer
These probably wont help too much, but Ill try and explain and hopefully give some insight on the work it takes to strip a rod down.

Anyway, this rod was giving to me by my Dad..He cut the handle/blank down and put on the EVA grips.....I wanted to extend it...I had an old beat up Pinnacle rod laying around that he also gave me to play with...
I used a dremmel to remove the reel seat by cutting lines lengthwise across the seat on one side..After I made a opening,I used a heat gun on LOW heat to soften the epoxy..Then I cracked and peeled the seat off (harder than it sounds)...With the EVA,I used a exacto knife and scored the grips length wise as well, the foam will spread when you do this...I used pliers to tear as much off as I could, then back to the heat gun to loosen the epoxy, then scraped the rest with the side of a flathead screwdriver...Then high grit sandpaper, then steel wool.

Then I had to repeat this on the pinnacle rod....Fun stuff

After I had the Pinnacle rod stripped..(very poorly cause that epoxy was a beast!!!)...I located the taper that would fit inside the BPS blank.I then used the dremmel to cut the P blank there...Then 14'' back from the first cut...Giving me a 14'' extension piece....My goal here is to make a 10'' extension...You want at least 3'' to go inside the blank...I did 4''.
I shimmed it with masking tape to keep it striaght and tight...Generously applied epoxy and let it set up for 48 hours.

Where my Dad shorten the grip on the BPS rod,he covered the BPS decal with the forgrip...I didnt want a forgrip, and it was barely in the way...I use a razorblade and shave the epoxy till I hit the thread..Then ''picked'' at it till a I got a full strand of thread up...After that you should be able to unravel the thread and epoxy all at once..Sometimes it easy, sometimes it a little work...Next was high grit sandpaper then steel wool.

Now to the rod decals..Believe it or not I used my thumbnail to chip most of that off...I got really lucky with that. The more brittle the epoxy, then easier it is to get off ..Otherwise,your looking at alot of fine sanding and elbow grease..I aslo got lucky that I didnt have to refinish the glossy finish...I normally do three coat of Krylon Krystal clear with good success, but Im going to start trying urethane to see if its better.

I wish I could find the rest of the pictures,
but I bascially placed a smaller diameter Fuji reel seat right over where the two blank are jointed, shimmed it with masking and epoxied in place....Due to all the imperfections on the P blank..I made the rear grip a little longer to cover scratches and old epoxy I couldnt get off...Did some basic thread work and to cover up the rest.a new hook keeper,a little thread finsih and 48 hours on the rod dryer...done!!

Its a good amount of work, but if your patient, then its not that diffucult.
Having Mr.Hankey around to help definitely speeds it up

The rod started as 6'...Nows its at 6'9 I think...I tried to keep the reel seat as close to the original as I could to keep the line path the same...So I dont create ''line slap'' when doing these mods
