West Nile ?
Hey Joe (and anyone else with info)
Is the stuff we're seeing on the news about this virus mostly hype or is it really effecting yall? I mean are you having to do anything different or behave in ways to minimize exposure.......around here mosquitos are everywhere all the time.

It is something that seems widespread this year most likely to drought, many lakes are mud flats.Keep this in mind each time you hear of bird kills mysteriously falling out of the sky.

The only way to avoid mosquitoes down here is to stay inside, and even that isn't foolproof.
One of the ladies that works in the accounting office as the dealership I work at contracted West Nile about 4-5 years ago. She still needs a walker to get around, and the doctors are pretty certain its permanent.

I'm not gonna let it change how I live. Im gonna fish and thats all there is to it.
Use bug spray and if you find you are getting hammered, move. Also, combined with the effects of skin cancer increases, I am investing in lightweight longsleeve shirts and those head scarfs sooner or later. That would help reduce bites and sun exposure. And if that don't work, I am going to plan b; dressing like TE Lawrence in full bedouin mode. That will keep the skeeters out, so I only have to worry about stray buckshot.

They are doing aerial spraying here as we speak. It is really odd to see and hear crop dusters flying 300' overhead in the city. They are spraying all of Dallas county over about a week long period.
My dad got west nile 5 or 6 years ago. The Dr's thought he might have contracted it while cleaning an infected dove during hunting season. He actually got bacterial (or was it viral) meningitis. He was in the hospital for a few days and made a full recovery. He was told that generally only people with weakened immune systems actually get sick. He was a healthy adult, they were surprised he got sick at all but it's probably why he made a quick, full recovery. I don't do anything different now than I would any other time.

Has anyone used a ThermaCELL? I see them advertised on the outdoor networks all the time. I don't think I know anyone who actually has one though.

Glad to hear that Cam. I'm going to have to pick up one for me and one for my parents. There's no reason to fight those little bastards if you don't have to.

Therma cells are great and portable. Only problem is wind. I keep mine on the boat, but with a little wind you will notice skeeters getting to you. I always wear 100% deet on my exposed skin even with the thermacell.
