One More Weapon....
I scored a Revo Winch today off ebay for $139.92, shipped. I love deep cranking, but man...I was usually doing it with spinning reels. they are really way too fast of a retrieve. Now I will be cranking in style!
I've accumulated about $25 in the so-called "ebay bucks". I'm probably going to buy an 800 yd spool of Vicious Fluorocarbon, 10 lb. It may be inexpensive, but it has worked great for me.

I haven't handled that size yet, but I do have a Toro Winch 61, which I really bought for the good price, not realizing just how huge it is, as I had just started using baitcasters at the time. Sheesh, it is super wide...you would never use it for bass fishing. I just made it my catfishing reel, since it holds about 250 yds of 65lb braid. I dare a 60lb blue to try and spool me! But yes, you are right...it is silky smooth, and I expect the regular winch to be as well. I can't wait til it gets here.

Hey nofear, it's always great to get a new toy, ain't in?
BTW, does the vicous flourocarbon have a small diameter to it, and how is the abrasion resistance? I am thinking about giving it a try. Ryan

The Vicious fluoro diameter is really kind of cool. The lb test is usually the same as the diameter in thousandths of an inch; i.e., 12 lb is 0.012" diameter.
I can't make any claims as to the abrasion resistance, since I don't really fish a lot of heavy cover. (When I do, it's usually with braid.) However, I will say I have left the same jig tied on for weeks and weeks, half out of laziness, but also half out of "let's see how the line and knot hold up". I will run my fingers along the line near the jig, and haven't felt any nicks or scratches, so at the very least, it holds up well to general day-in, day-out wear. But the castability is there, as is the sensitivty. The first time I hooked a bass on a jig with it, I was amazed at how much of the "bite" I felt...not just the "turn and run." I think for the money, you'd be foolish not to at least give it a try. It is only marginally more expensive than good mono.

I tried the CXX the other day, and it put a bully bashing on the Berkley 100% flouro and vanish line. If it gets bad on me, I think I might try Vicious next.

Nofear you're making me think I should have gone with the winch instead of the Curado E5 for deep cranking. I have both Curados and Revos and neither have let me down. I could always get a winch and use the E5 for my worm rod.

Hey Bob, I don't know how much you got your E5 for, mine was 179 at tacklewarehouse.com , but I found them on ebay for 145 "buy it now". They had E7s for that price too. Sorry to jack your thread NFE.

Bryce, that was a sweet deal, on a just as sweet a reel. I saw a similar sweet deal on Ebay. They had a revo winch listed at 130 buy-now offer. Not what I was looking for, but it did catch my eye.

It was the same deal, Woody...they just added the ten bucks in shipping. I really hate how ebay handles shipping...it really ought to be included in the price, especially when it's a fixed shipping rate. There are far too many sellers on there who overcharge on shipping to make money.

Woody...sorry to get off topic, but I just checked the Patoka information. They are still a foot over SUMMER POOL. In February....
There are going to be a TON of weeds this year without them killing them by drawing it down. I predict mad topwater action over those weed beds.

Got home tonight, and it was sittin on my doorstep. Man, this thing is smooth. Eleven bearings.
On a side note...it ought to be illegal to ship anything any other way than UPS ground. 4 days after I click "buy", it's in my hands. USPS can go jump off a cliff. I did get one of my rods today via USPS...16 days after I bought it...what a joke...your government at work.

My next new reel is going to be a Winch. Right now for cranks I use a Calais 100A, but I want a reel that is designed specifically for cranks.
