rod building for dummies
Yep, I admit I am the dummy in this case.
All of the discussions on chat lately have me considering making a rod. I figured this would be easier then me trying to write down the chat discussions. I am not sure that I will enjoy doing it so I don't want to go all out in buying stuff that I won't use. So, what are the basics that I need to accomplish this, assuming an error factor when I screw it up that is. I know that I can save money buying in bulk, but I already have a garage full of stuff I don't use so I am looking for the minimum things needed. My goal is to have an 8' rod with a 20" grip that can throw 6-8oz baits. Thanks guys.

Cass there was some good info in this thread about starting off...The first rod is always the most expensive just because of the tools, finishes, wrapper, etc you may need.
''May need'' is a big key word..Ive seen guys wrap rods on shoeboxes and use a book laying on their thread for tension.Just a matter of how much you wanna put into it. Almost everything I use i made myself..dryer,wrapper,automatic mixer, etc http://www.bassfishin.com/bassfishin...ad.php?t=26195 This may also help ya.... http://www.rodbuilding.org/faq.html The forum search has tons of info in them, different ways to things, etc and you know well help ya anyway we can.

I feel silly asking about things, but when you have a great group of people to bounce thoughts and ideas off of, it makes it easier. There are quite a few on this forum and on the RodBuilding forum that can help. If you have easy questions, I might even be able to answer them. LOL Good luck man! |

Cass - I made my first and last rod this year. I have some tools that I'd let go cheap if you need them.
