Default Revo STX

Since about 2002, I have refused to buy any Abu product because of some serious quality issues and their unwillingness to admit there was a problem. But, the damn Monkey has had this sweet deal on a Revo STX on TW for way too long.

Too make a long story short...I bought it. I really hope that I'm not kicking my own tail again for going back to Abu. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

I am almost willing to bet even money that the only regret you'll have ....is not doing it sooner...Congrats on the new reel!

Nice Cam! Are you a lefty or just reinventing the wheel?

LMAO!

I personally think the wheel would be much better off square.

Seriously though, I got a 2010 STX earlier this year, and like it so far, even though I haven't fished with it much yet. It's a long story, but I also had the chance to fish with a 2009 for a few days and it wasn't bad either, especially for that price. Getting a great deal makes it that much better, so go for it!

We shall see. It's suppose to be here before Tuesday when I head out chasing smallies. Hopefully it'll get a workout.

Cool, well...good luck with that!

Seriously though, I've looked at that reel on TW for awhile too. Wish I could justify spending another $120 on a reel right now.

You'll love it. I recently bought a left hand Silver Max just to try out a left hand reel. It was a little akward at first. I wanted to change hands with the rod. Cranking was a little wobbly at first (me, not the reel). Now it's all good.

Hmm...day 1 down with the Revo. Honestly, don't know what to think. So far, it's just OK. Going to put it through the paces again tomorrow. Hoping to get rid of this buyers remorse I'm having right now.

If i may ask, what's just "OK" about it?

Is it the casting distance? smoothness of the retrieve? .....

So here's a run down of the 2009 I fished for a very short while:

Casting distance - using a 3/8oz jig with 3" Chigger Craw, it casted fine, lol.

Smoothness - wasn't the smoothest reel, but nothing major. (the 2010 is quite a bit smoother).

Brakes - magnetic brakes were the biggest disappointment on this reel for me. I personally think Daiwa has the best braking system on the market with their Magforce V and Z brakes. They've got it down, and it's hard for others to compare. (also, the dual brakes on the 2010 are a good improvement)

Ergonomics - This reel is taller and longer than the Citica (which I find awfully uncomfortable), yet it sits in my hand very well. Obviously, the body is the same as the 2010. Gotta give the 2010 points for the swept handle though.

Overall - Not a bad reel, although not worth the retail price IMO. I would probably be disappointed if I had paid retail for it. But for the TW Clearance price (or what I got it for), not a bad reel at all. Like I said before, a decent reel, and a good one considering the price.
