BB,

You done woke up my bait monkey. He rattlin' his cage. Thanks!

For some odd reason the stark contrast of black and white is appealing to me.

And titatnium sic guides on a $99 rod? Incredible!

Just a set of SiC guides are about $50 retail. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the Pac Bay seat with the chrome inlay in the threads. It looks like a sweet rod.

I know, It'd be near impossible to even build a rod with full SiCs for that price.

It would look killer with one of the Daiwa Caldias that BPS clearanced earlier this year.

Caldia:

I have to admit, a Veritas/Caldia combo would look pretty cool.

i have used a split grip jrob. felt weird to me. even used it for an entire day to try to get used to it. just ol fashioned i guess, lmao. but a white reel combined with a white rod..........awesum looking.

which brings up another question. why aren't there MORE colored rods? most of the rods you see are black. jsut wondering. i got black, green and red and now white. but most of the rods we see at the store are black. is this because the blanks are a flat black?

Just from observation Bama, a lot of graphite rods are going to the raw look. I haven't seen a glass rod without paint though. The graphite appears to be dark and light gray stripes when unfinished and then clear coated. I think a lot of companies paint the rods black because it is cheap and it covers any imperfections in the graphite finish. And now we are in the day of the yellow, orange, and white, and whatever other color just for aesthetics and to be able to quickly identify brands IMO.

BPS now lists the Verdict, although they don't have them in stock yet.

To bad only suckers will buy them at that price.

I won't buy anything from BPS anymore, due to their praying on the weak knowledged walk in sales, unless it's an emergency.

Could you explain that a little more? Are you talking about that rod specifically or paying retail period?

Then in that case, I agree, paying retail sucks, lol. That's why I normally don't.

Nope, you just have to be patient, and wait for sales. I also buy a lot of good condition used stuff off eBay, forums, etc.

Me too. Ebay is the best place to buy reels. IMO I've gotten some really good deals on brand new reels. The big stores put out a weekly circular, check online Sundays and the new add will be out. Dicks and Academy regularly will have 25% off brand X,Y and Z for a given week. Both stores will also often take an additional 25-50% off clearance items. I only pay retail if I absolutely have to.

One thing I forgot to mention is that a lot of online stores have discount codes.

TW for examples has numerous ones (although you can only use one per household).

Then you get sales for Labor Day, Black Friday, New Years, etc. Or like BTD had a random 20% off sale less than a week ago.

You can also get good deals on previous year's models (like Kistler Rods or 2009 AG Revos).

Check local tackle shops for end of summer sales. That's how I got 25% off my latest rod.

I only do things like this in a vain attempt to try to get the monkey to leave me alone.

As for the bill... well... good luck with that!

Is there a place where you go to get coupon codes, or do you get them in the email newsletters?
