Gear ratio is the amount of times the spool revolves per turn of the handle.
Example. A 5.1:1 ratio means the spool will revolve 5.1 times per 1 complete turn of the reel handle. 6.3:1 means 6.3 revolutions per complete turn of the handle. For all around use, I would recommend a 5.1:1 You can fish this slow, fast or normal to get the results desired. I use the following 6.3:1 Spinnerbaits/buzzbaits/topwater/flipping/pitching/lipless carnkbaits 5.1:1 Worms/Jigs 4.3:1 Crankbaits Also, the lower the ratio, the more cranking power it has. Hope this helps |
