Yesterday was a 'crappy' day
We had a perfect November day yesterday here in middle Tennessee. It was sunny and 76 degrees with no wind. I took the wife crappie fishing on Lake Normandy. This is a lake that I've only been on a few times but so far it's been a good experience.
We only fishined from around 8:30am until 1:30. We caught nine crappie. They were all keepers, no small fish. Just to give you an idea of how large these fish were, the small one on the stringer was 10 1/2" long. With 10" being legal to keep we kept it early not knowing the larger ones would follow. |

didn't show
Apparently, the picture of the stringer laying on the ground it too large to load. It shows the size better than any of the pics.

Wish I could get me a crappy day like that!
Nice fish - are they good eating? (never eaten one or any panfish for that matter) Do you fillet them? Oven bake, pan fry or breaded and fried?

The best
The are the best eating fresh water fish alive! I think they are better than most salt water fish (my opinion).
My wife is a wonderful cook and does a GREAT job with fish. We prefer to season them up (sea salt, pepper, old bay) and cook them with olive oil on the grill on alumnum foil. It's lean and healthy and FANTASTIC tasting! I like them better than flounder! |

Thanks Racemaster.
Hey - food for thought (pardon the pun). But I caught Iron Chef Bobby Flay at the NYS Fair this year and when asked, he said he doesn't cook with Olive oil as it tends to yield a somewhat burned flavor (although EVOO is great for salads, pesto and such when heat doesn't alter the flavor). He recommends Canola oil for cooking/grilling. Might be worth a try sometime Also, I'll bet they would be awesome too (although less healthy) filleted and beer batter deep fried ! So anyway, if I ever catch any of those, I'll give them a try - right now I'm convinced that the fish all heard I got a boat and swam away scared!

I tried making the picture small enough to load, lets see if it works. Remember, the tiny potato chip looking fish is 10 1/2" long. That gives you an idea how large the others were.

Holy smokes, Racemaster...that would make the two big ones on the end 19"-20" long. 3-1/2 lb Crappies? I'll say it again...holy smokes!

big
The two large ones on the right side were both around 18" (one just over, one just under). I didn't weigh them but they were THICK across the back. I'm guessing better than 2 1/2 lbs. In my book those are HUGE crappie!
