Get or make a lure retriever, I have not lost one since I added that to my boat. This winter I actually put the line on an old baitcaster so now I can wind it back in easily.
If you lose a few LC Pointers in one day it can get real expensive.

I have heard many of you talking about these lure retrievers.....I would love an explanation of exactly what they are and how they are used!!! I just can't seem to grasp the theory behind them. A diagram or video aid would be awesome, thanks in advance

yeah if you aint getting hung you aint fishin............. you use a lure retriever by buying one and then attaching it to a rope (thin.... like thickness of thunb..... make it about 50 feet or so..... just however deep you fish plus 20 feet)..... when you ge tstuck you can put the lure retriever around your line (the metal cylinder thing) then you drop it into the water........... when it hits the lure it knowck it off...... that simple...... if it doesnt come of the first time yo-yo it up and down.................

hope this helps

ohhhhh you can also put it on an old baitcaster and some really heavy line (50) and put the baitcaster on a broken rod............ this helps b/c you can crank it up and down.......... make sure the knot is good b/c i saw my friends line/knot break....... we managed to get the lure and the lure retriever back tho

Alright newbs, listen up.....

I got a tip for you. If your lure lands in a tree, sometimes you can get it back without going in there. Here is what you do.

Say the line is draped over a branch, lure hanging free. Some people will just jerk it and take there chances with it coming back to them. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesnt.

But you can improve your chances drastically if you rock the lure back and forth in the tree, like a pendulum. Then, when the lure is rocking away from you - at that moment jerk. The angle this creates when the lure is suddenly jerked back gives you about a 90% (in my experience) of the lure coming back your way free. Even with trebles.

One last thing, dont let the lure nail you on the way back.

Actually, with all the thousands and thousands of bass I've caught, I am getting pretty ripped. Its a good workout fighting 7+ pounders all day.

To add to what WTL said about freeing lures. If you end up in the tullies, lift your rod tip high and try to get the lure to slide up the tullie. As the lure slides up, the tullies will begin to bend towards you. Once you have the tullie bent, apply constant pressure as you lower the rod tip. Keep the rod tip pointing at the tullie and tug backwards. Do not whip the rod tip or you will set the hook in the tullie.
Most of the time, the hook will slip off and fly back towards you.

my last bassmaster magazine had instructions on how to make one out of copper tubing and some chain. they are for sure worth carrying with you, can save you some big bucks over the course of a season.

wtl sorry pal, but i gotta say this seeing as i am feeling sarcastic some tonight. actually it is a question. ok, are you telling me with 4 years of college, thousands of dollars spent and you came up with this lure saving technique? hahahahaha, kidding buddy. and yes you are right about it too. most of my lost lures though come from the dam gator grass around here. thank you gang for turning me on to braided line, cured my lost lure problem and hopefully, that nasty bigun i lost TWICE last year. i gonna get him this year..........maybe,lmao.
