who all has a fish aquairum?

i've got a 30 gal. sitting outside.. it dosent have a big pump but its got a pump for the waterfall..

i measured my aquairum just now... its a 30x12 and 18 deep...

my little chest of drawers in my room is 24 1/2 wide and 14 deep.. think the aquairum would be alright with 3" hanging off each end?


also.. how mad do you think a 1/2 lb or 1lb bass would be if we put him in it?

i want to test lures with him..then return him to the pond...

A half pound bass will likely die in that tank. Go with a smaller bass, almost a fry if you can catch one in a couple months.

(and while I say that, I kept a 12 oz trout in a 20 gallon, I guess it can be done, but if you can get a smaller fish do it. You dont want the fish having to think just to be able to turn around.)

I think 3 inches of tank on either end will probably be ok, but no garantees. I have done that before and been ok though.

eh.. well i guesss i'll go smaller... ..but whatever i can catch is whats going in the tank .. i was thinking a 6" fish or so... or a little bigger...


i've gotta clean it off and clean the tank before i can put it in my room.. and get a tank side filter... and a light for the top.. just so i can see in it.. but i'll leave it off for him..

I doubt you will get much out of lure testing in a tank that size. you will create an environment that may not match your fish's natural environment. I had a much smaller bass in an aquarium for a year and it was fun to see how it would react and investigate baits.
I agree with WTL that you need to get one a lot smaller. I would go a little larger than a fry. Maybe one a couple of months old.

My dad's got a 180 gallon plexi tank from when he used to raise tropical fish, and I'd love to put a bass in there, or maybe a couple bluegill.

we put small blue gills in my friend's 150 gallon tank ant they always die in a few months, or weeks..

Glasscages.com - Good site, I prefer the acrylic aquariums cause they are less likely to break and lighter for movin.

I have a 70 gallon that I got from them for like $150 or so. Very satisfied with it. Also get a good filter, Aquaclear are the best value for moving water.

our wallys dont have fish anymore..but they have the aquairums and stuff for them

I know just running walmart is easier, but the Aquaclears are significantly better than whispers. They pump more water and more importantly they dont use those little cartridges that you buy in a pack.

big als online is a good aqaurium shop, nice prices. Just want to give you all the info I can. I have kept turtles for years.

i'll stick with the whisper to start with .. and if the tank seems to be working out [not killing fish once a month.. ] then i'll upgrade

That will work.

Oh, but also what cass said is right about the bass not really behaving like it would in the wild. After a couple weeks that bass will be so programed to strike what you put in the tank, you will be able to throw nuts and bolts and quarters in the tank and get a bite.

yeah... hopefully he'll react diffrently to bass attractant than a non -attractant lure..

I have a 50gal tank, I had small bass in it, not 1lb by any means (when he died ) he was about 6 inches, he ate frogs and minnows we caught for him. Now me have tilapia in it now they kind of belong in a crazy tank if ya know what I mean , they suck... well compared to the bass!

BTW-the BEST why to get them used to the tank is to get them a fry, no more than 3" long they seem to adapt better! You'll have to get them with a shrimp sized cast net or a scoop net!

A friend of mine use to have a big (estimated) 180 gal tank in his room. He kept a huge Largemouth in the tank. I'd estimate it was at least 6 lbs. The first time I saw him feed the fish, I was amazed. He opened the lid of the tank and he told me to step back because I might get wet. He was right. He took a shiner measuring about 3 inches from a cooler. I swear the bass was watching him as he was preparing to feed him. He raised the shiner up to the surface of the water and before he could drop it in the tank, the bass grabbed if from his hand. Pretty cool to see that.

l'd say the one here is over 5000 gal. Our small water garden pond w/ koi is 5000 gal, and tha BPS tank looks bigger. Maybe even more than 5.

Remember before you put that on your stand that 30 x 7 = 210lbs. just for the water plus the tank and the equipment weight.

yeah.. i'm going to put a 3/4 piece of plywood under it to make sure it dosent break and distribute the weight a little bit

Also fill it with water outside first to make sure it doesn't have any leaks. I have a 65 gal. acrylic in the shop with a built in filter and a 10 gallon inside I was using for keeping minnows alive for ice fishing. Not saying I know anybody with a bass...but if I did I would make sure you know that they eat a lot and often.

if i ever win the lottery im going to buy a huge tank and put bass in it, but i still see my money going elsewhere... like fishing.
