Default Anybody play poker?

We have a home game about once a month .25/.50 limit Hold 'Em with a $20 buy-in. The bait monkey sits on my shoulder and tells me what to do. The bait monkey is pretty good.

I play, but the drive may be a little too far for me...lol
I mostly play at the casino, but we have a monthly game in the neighborhood.
We usually fill 3 tables with a $50 buy in. We added one rule a year ago. If you sit at the table your money is there for at least two hours. We had few guys who would double up and then call it quits in 45 minutes. If you choose to walk before 2 hours, your $50 goes into the next pot.

We play from 6-10 with 5-8 players. It is usually down to 2 people by then with the blind increase at half hour intervals. We usually just divy up at 10 between the 2 heads up. I played in a tournament once and placed 15th out of 40, but my nerves can't take that kind of play. It was just one of those wanted to be there, now I done that deals. I felt like I could get use to it though, and that could be a bad thing in the long run. If I ever make it to San Diego, I will look you up.

My best tourney finish was 16th out of 450. I play tourneys at least once a month. Usually have about 200 people. Twice a year I play in bigger 1000 people plus tourneys. I have played WSOP three years now. Not main event, but some of the smaller ones. I usually play the no limit and HORSE tourneys with the 1000 buy in. I made the money the past couple, but no where near the good money.

I just don't have the ka-jonsies to play that kind of money. I like HORSE online. I usually play the Horse and Omaha Hi/Lo. Anyone else ever play online for the play $? I am on pokerstars under bubba_gumpa a lot late at night when I am home. I like that game, too Bama. 3 more days to land and I am buyin' in for the head's up match. hehehehehe

I have too many casinos around me to play online for money. While I am mostly an odds player (loving the 4-2 rule). I do like the ability to watch someone when the flop comes out.

I play for fun online. Either 5/10 no limit or 50/100 pot limit. good thing I'm not old enough to play for real money, I'd be really broke.

I'll have to check that out. I like pokerstars. You have the chance to play in freerolls to get in to money games. But all of them probably do that now. I have a ticket for the weekly $2000 tournaments. But I can't find the time to play one, you have to dedicate 8-10 hours to play in 1. I will check out True Poker when I get in though.

Hey BB. The key to playing for money is simple. Don't bet what you can't lose. I know that sounds simplistic, but it is very true. I have a poker budget. Yes it has grown over the years, but it is still a budget. I set aside money every month into my poker account. If I lose that month's money on the 1st weekend then I am done for the month. This is my entertainment budget. I figure if I go to 1 movie I am out $20. Catch a Pro baseball or football game and it is close to $100. I can usually make that same $120 last a heck of a lot longer than the 5 hours of the game and movie.
Poker is a game of chance, but skill does come into play. Luck is can beat skill on any one hand 70% of the time. However the more hands played, the more skill will outplay luck.
This is whre reading a player and knowing the math helps. At the end of the day odds will payout more often than luck. that being said, you can make the right call and lose when some one catches a river card that was 1 of 4 possible outs for them.

Of course I find that more and more of my Poker budget feeds the bait monkey than it once did.

I installed poker stars. I like how many different tournaments they have, but prefer the interface on true poker. I did okay on the play money. Finished 23rd out of 360 and then 3rd out of 45.

I never had any problems out of it over the past couple of years, but I keep things updated pretty well. Anything else that could help protect me while using it?

Symantec blocked a few downloaders. Other than that no issues.

Anyone have any issues with Party Poker? That's what I've been using, and I've had no problems so far.

I never could get logged on a Party Poker. That is where some of my buddies played, but I just gave up on them.
