I used to fish Lake Tarpon down there this time of year. We often had days where we had our best catches in January fishin by working jointed Rebels and Rapalla minnow type baits over the tops of weedbeds well away from shore. Tarpon Lake is 3 miles wide, and we were often about a mile from shore catchin bass on every cast while not a soul was catching anything near shore. Those bass were very particular too. It had to be a jointed minnow bait, "they called them broken backs down there", and they had to be silver with a black back. Don't know why, but nothin else worked.
