Falcon Lake 5/15/2009
Going to Falcon Lake this Friday. I need to load up on supplies.
Anyone been there lately? What color selection should I use, as well as what lure and technique. I've been told to use Berkley 10'' power worms, drop shot rigged. Thanks, stevomac

Never been to falcon, but from what I know of it, I'd use a 12" culprit worm, or a 10" anaconda. I'd also try a swimbait, try finding a tree and casting a swimbait around it.
just my 0.2!

I'd be REALLY cautious about using a dropshot rig there if you are anywhere near submerged wood or brush. If you rig the dropshot Texas-style rather than nose-hook with point exposed you should be OK. L6 |

That's what I planned on doing. T-rig a berkley 10'' power worm.. or a 12'' culprit.
L6, do you have any color preferences for falcon?

Byron Velvick caught 132 lbs on lake falcon on a motor oil red fleck 10 inch power worm. That and black are the only things I ever hear about being fished there, just drag it slow in 10-15 ft.

You might consider some SEVEN inch Senkos in like colors so well as the WaveWorm BambooStick. I'll leave it to someone else to advise re cranks of both types but I'd NEVER hit Falcon without some large topwaters, to include Spooks, Large Propbaits (The large Johnny Rattler or similar, if you can find them,) and the LARGER chuggers. I have fond memories if early AM and evening explosions on Falcon Lake, triggered by topwaters. Good luck. Stay on THE USA SIDE!, and be safe. Lancer6 |

Alright, tomorrow is the day. I loaded up on some Norman, Bandit, and Rapala Cranks. Bamboos, Powerworms, Spinners, and some z-spooks.
Hopefully all goes well... I plan on being on the water by 9 am, but who knows...things always happen!! Thanks for all the input! stevomac

Go BIG, you can catch thousands of small ones but you have a chance at catching a couple 10lb+ fish

Alright...
We got there a little late, it was about 945 when we got on the water. I went to a local tackle shop and they HIGHLY reccommended a Norman Purple Lavender Crank... so I went ahead and bought two. It was my second time to that lake, and I really did not know where to go.. and the lake is huge! (biggest I have ever fished). I spent most of the time looking for points, dropoffs, and underwater veg. and rocks. I caught ONE bass off the Norman (about 17in, 4lbs). It was a beautiful fish, it had nice DARK colors. I didn't expect the lake to be that big, Last time I went the water level was LOW, thus it gave us little area options; but since they released some water from Amistad, the lake filled significantly. Thanks for all the input guys, hopefully next time I can REALLY fish it. L6, you in for next time? stevomac
