Lookin' for pigs?

Ok, so I really wanna get a new pb on a spinnerbait! I've caught most my big bass on one, so I wanna get it on a spinnerbait. So my question really is this:

Do think the bigger bass will deeper, the water temps are in the high 80's probably. If I wanna get a big bass, do you think I should let the spinnerbait sink down close to the bottom? I think the depth of water is about 15' 20' most places I fish. btw, I'll probably be using a 3/8 - 1/2 oz spinnerbait with a number 5 willow blade.

So where do you think they're gonna be?

I'm not a big spinnerbait guy but I do know at least a little about big bass. In my opinion, the biggest fish will be as deep as possible in that temperature range. The deeper they get, the cooler the water and mid-80's is a little much for the big girls.
As for the spinnerbait, I'd use a smaller blade to keep it down longer and go with the heaviest spinnerbait you have.

True, I forgot that the bigger blade would have more lift.

I guess I could also try a a siwm jig swimbait combo!

...in all the wrong places. I thought you were going in to a Ronnie Milsaps rendition of looking for love. Just jackin' with you BB, that is probably a little before your time anyways. You been catching enough pigs this year, leave some for us.

I would look at the bait fish and match your blade size to them , as towards retrieve just let it sink all the way to the bottom and slow roll it back if you watch how fast you turn the handle on your reel you should be able to keep the bait right on the bottom. Also give it side to side twitches on the retrieve to make it jump around a bit , usually drives them crazy .

I love spinnerbait fishin! It's one of my two go to baits on a regular basis. One thing I started doing a couple years ago was taking a 1/2 or 3/4 oz. spinnerbait and changing the blades to smaller sizes. A # 3 willow and # 2 colorado. This allows the spinnerbait to easily be worked in deeper water and it works! Also, if your lookin to hang a pig, work that spinnerbait around weedbeds after the sun starts going down. Those biggins will start to move upward after sundown. In this situatiion I'd use a 3/8 - 1/2oz spinnerbait with the normal sized blades. I usually use a double colorado bladed spinnerbait after dark because it's easier to work slowly around weedbeds, and it gives off more vibration which will help the bass locate your lure in the dark. I'll probably go around 10-12 once, and than again at 6 in the after noon, still a a good amount of light left then, probably leave the pond around 8:00. also I'll be working hydrilla, so I won't be able to go all the way to the bottom, I'll nic the tops of the weeds though, hope fully that will produce!

Keith, glad to know I'm no the only spinnerbait fanatic!

And also fellers, should I use a tandem spinner, or a single blade?

hope fully that 100th bass will another 5lber

I usually throw tandem most of the time, but at night a large single colorado can be deadly because it throws out such a vibration. Good luck.
