Now or Later
OK, so the mailbox is full of ads for the holiday season. I have NO good idea what is a good sale price for rods and reels and am sorely tempted to buy, buy, buy. Question: are the BPS sales now as good as the March springtime sale? Should I wait till March to buy? Need some help here. Thanks.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend on a rod and reel..
Most quality rods usually are 79-179 bucks, a good reel can go 70 bucks upwards to 200 or more..and everyone will give you a brand name on either that is their preference. The Bass Pro extreme reel or combo seems to be a above average set up, everyone on here seems to like those BPS baitcasters. Find one or two that ya like, show a link on this forum and you'll get responses. |

I would suggest waitting untill the March sale. Our local BPS definately has bettere sales on equipment in the spring than the fall. Plus your likely to see something thats new that had you bought now, you may wish you had held off. There was really not much of a sale at our BPS ths fall. But come March there are weeks of sales adds flowing into my mailbox. Plus I noticed at our BPS, they were having clearance sales of older models of rods, an so forth trying to make rom for the newer versions. I picked up 3 Pro Qualifier rods for $69.00 each that way. They were selling for $129.00 normally.

not counting my chickens before they hatch but i would bet i get at least 200.00 or more worth of bass pro gift cards before dec 26.my birthday is the 17 of dec so it really works out good, not that if wanted it i wouldnt buy it anyway.what i do is i save my rewards points all year long, and im faithful about getting it scanned everytime i buy something, and i have over 175.00 on it now so with the holiday stuff im gonna be at the spring classic wide open.my opinion is wait till then, the way money is right now they will be begging to sell stuff by last week in january.
i wont get to preachin on the extreme bass pro stuff, but i have pro qualifier rods and reels and extreme rod and reels, and imo the extreme stuff is the best rods and reels on the market for the money.you do not have to spend 250.00 to get a good quality piece that is tournament capable. |

Wait!!! I've looked at the latest sales flyer and there really isn't a lot on sale. Maybe 4 or 5 fishing items in 24 pages of material. Not a big fishing sale.
$50 for the KVD crankbait/spinnerbait package isn't bad. 4 SB's and 13 Cranks for $50 is a good deal. $3 per. Find a rod or reel that you are interested in and take a look at a couple sites and see what they're selling for. If you can find one for %20-50 off then you've got a deal. I'd wait for the show season to start if you can't. Last edited by 3dkicker; 12-05-08 at 06:42 PM. |

Boy, at the Bass Pro in Cincinatti, I picked up a 6'6" MH BPS Pro Qualafier LTD rod for $29! Heres the funny thing... when i was at the Rossford Store a couple weeks ago they had the same deal, same length and action for $29! I bought the one in Cincinatti, but left the other two go...

I always keep an eye on BPS's clearance section: http://tinyurl.com/635wjm
and Cabela's bargain cave: http://tinyurl.com/5v5y76 and sometimes you can find good deals other places too, such as www.tacklewarehouse.com . Fortunately for you it is a short trip to BPS and Cabelas. Also close to Jann's Netcraft, they had a Shimano Crucial 7'2" for $89 and a Cumara for cheap too a little while ago in the store, wish I would have bought them. |

If you dont' need the equipment now, wait until after the 1st of the new year. It's going to be a real tough season for the retail industry, and this holiday season with the exception of Walmart bears that out. By Jan clearance events BPS, Cabelas, and the rest of the retail industry will be looking to move seasonal merchandise at nearly any price as they need working capital.
You will be surprised at the deals that will be out there including free shipping for orders over a certain amount. Also many discontinued models will be offered at rock bottom prices to make way for the '09 models. I've got more then a few fishing friends that swear by not at the BPS lline of rods and reels. Go for the best line you can afford. Nearly every house brand rod I've seen is made in China with Fuji components. For the most part they're an excellent value for the money.

The March BPS sales have alot more to choose from. I love going to spring fling to go a few rounds with the bait monkey, but I always lose.

March is already to late for me. If the reservoirs are ice free, I'm out fishing.
