Default July 4th Classic Car Challenge

So a couple years ago I was at a July 4th car show and took pics of the car badges and challenged the car guys here to identify the car from the badge. Some did really well identifying the car and even got the year of the car right as well. So this year I decided to try something a little different. I'll post a pic of the engine compartment and see if you can identify the car......

A few curve balls now.......

Good luck and let's see how you do.......

i'll go with bryce's list. ALTHOUGH, the 440 super comando COULD have been in ANY chrysler/dodge/ plymouth vehicle. but the SUPER COMANDO is a dead give away. years could be different than jsut the 68 i THINK. could be wrong. the olds is dead on i think.the 3rd is pretty much ok but could be in other cars as well. the 325 hemi "could" have been in another car too. chrysler had it in some of their models. #5 oculd be any car too. #^...i have NO IDEA, LOL. so i trust bryce ont hat and the porche, hahaha! thae last 2....i shrug my shoulders, shake my head and giggle histerically....hahahaha!!

You know...I didn't think there was any way to determine what car the ZZ430 crate motor was in, but...

There is a little reflection of the inside of the grille on the chrome to the left.

The spacing on the grille sections just screams Impala, so that's my guess.

Oh and John...the first 327 is DEFINITELY in a Camaro.

And the second 327 is DEFINITELY in a Corvette.

It's all in the non-engine parts.

Doh...this quiz is killing me!

I'm going to say the Hurst Olds is just a regular Cutlass. I forgot the Hurst only came in white/gold/black .

I am also still obsessing over the crate engine.

I'm changing my pick to a 55 Chevy. The center radiator hose doesn't look right for an Impala.

bryce....some people CHANGE the way things are under the hood. UNLESS this is a TRUE antique car show. if that is the case, it owuld be scarilige to change ANYTING from the way DETROIT made it on the assembly line.

i have been to shows and people say, "no way dodge put a 440 6 pack in a valiant." well contrary to what oyu are USED to thinking fella, back then oyu could order WHATEVER MOTOR you wanted in whichever car you wanted.

i have had this argument with so many people i now jsut shake my head and tell them to GOOGLE IT. hahahaa!!

thus, this is the reason i am somewhat confused bryce. there is so much chrome added to all these motors i no longer am willing to say for certain, what motor is in which car. much less year model car. lol.

this reminded me of the court room scene in the movie MY COUSIN VINNY. when marisa tomei is being questioned about her aptitude as a "proffessional mechanic". the lawyer asks her what something is about the timing in a 350 cubic inch engine in a 55 chevy is. she says it's a bogus question because chevy didn't HAVE a 350 engine in 55. funny movie.

This your final answer???? Here's the pics that correspond to the cars. Once again I'm amazed at your car knowledge......

First is the GTX (sorry about the blur)

Next is the Cutlass

Camaro is right (one of many there)

Back to a Mopar (nicely done!!!)

then the "little red" one

didn't get the year on the Sunbeam (68??? I think)

This one was a 911T

Belair is correct for the crate motor.

and finally.........very well done!!!

Thanks for playing along. Maybe next year I'll take the pics from underneath the cars and see how you do ......

LMAO!!! I'm screwed!!

Thanks, Smitty...I absolutely love your car quizzes. It totally takes me back to when I was a dirt-poor teenager obsessing over cars in magazines I had no chance in hell of ever owning (or so I thought )

Kind of like Joe Dirt going through Auto Trader hehe.

Not too many classic cars from the 80's forward so I'll do my best to help you out. Only ones that may make "Classic" status I can think of might be the Mustang transition from carb to FI. Maybe IROC-Z, the Vette, and the Ferrari 288 GTO. Any others you can think of???? Mercedes 190, the Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300zx, or the 81 Firebird????

i ain't into no ferignier (southern slang, hehe) cars smitty. strictly AMERCIAN made. hahaha!!

like taillights from the night time. you know, when oyu can come up on a car at night and be able to tell what kind it is from the tail lights. back then they changed most every year and oyu could spot them by year model jsut form the taillights. at least a LOT of them.
