Excited about Mud Lake!
This is a lake I spotted a couple years ago, while driving down to the mouth of the Platte River, where it meets lake Michigan (Platte Point).
I was by there again yesterday, while looking for public access to Rush Lake, which i didn't find lol. If you're bored and a fan of google earth, the best way to see what I'm talking about is to search for "loon lake benzie county michigan". Mud Lake is due north. If you search for Mud Lake, it will take you to the wrong Mud Lake. Not a big lake at all. Loon Lake (for anyone who bothered to google earth it), is only 94 acres by comparison. What really excites me about Mud Lake is the fact that a fisherman has to work, just to put in there. There is no boat launch whatsoever. There are 2 ways to get there. 1-Take a small feeder creek off the Platte river 2-Drag a kayak or canoe about 100 yards through the woods. Once through the woods and at the water, it's gonna be a messy launch from the look of things. Waterproof shoes would be a huge help from the look of it. I have no idea on the depth, or what types of fish are in there. Realistically, any species in Lake Michigan could be in there. What I saw last year during good weather, leads me to believe it's a Bass lake. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an early Spring. Bass season doesn't open until the end of April, but I plan on hitting this lake as soon as the ice is gone. I'll be targeting Gills but keeping my fingers crossed on marking Bass The road you see to the North of the lake is a DNR road. It's locked down most of the year, since it leads down to a weir on the Platte. This could be a total waste of time.....or it could be a monster bass area, that I have to lie about

Very exciting to find a place where you know the pressure is nil. There are two possibilities
#1 It's the honey hole of a lifetime, crawling with giant naive fish eager to smash any bait you present or #2 It's either lifeless or it's so out of balance that its packed with towsands and towsands of starving stunted dinks Let us know either way.

Haha, just kidding. Always fun to find a new place to fish, even if it is covered in ice.

Looks like you found yourself a real good puddle! Only about 80 miles east of mine too! if you zoom out enough you'll see Shawano directly east!
Give us some pics first time you're out there too, looks pretty interesting!

I'll do that boss!
I have no doubt, that lake is fullf something. Could be bass, pike (biggest concentration of Loon Lake), gills, perch, the list goes on. I know I'll catch something when I'm there. Keeping my fingers crossed that I catch what I want

37 degrees....sunny skies and a cool breeze....time to cure a lil winter blues.
Headed over to my buddy's house and dragged him down to this lake He'd never seen it before (even though he's driven right by it), and he's pretty excited too! We already decided we'll grab a 10' pallet from our shop to use as a redneck yak launch Then of course we had to stop by Big Platte so I could show him a teeny launch worthy of kayakers opposite the real launch. It's been a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong winter!
