Try grease on that. The oil works the best for gears and such, but the reel grease works great for the line guide. I use Abu Garcia Reel Grease.

You might want to check the pawl on that reel. It could be worn or binding in the track. It will work fine with oil as long as the pawl is tracking ok.
You may have to unscrew the pawl cap (under line guide) and take it out to see if it's worn.........if so you'll need to get another one. A pawl usually takes a long time to get bad enough to bind. |

Mariner, This just happened to me this past spring and now it is being fixed. On mine the problem was that the e-clip one the line-guide spindle was grinding the spindle and eventually broke the spindle. That is wierd that yours is doing it too, must be alittle error witht he purist. I do love that little reel, but its to bad its being worked on during prime fishin season. I would send yours into too, there might be something else wrong too. Good luck

Go to Pfluger's website, and there is a link to service centers in your area.

I have fished with ABu Garcias for years. They have the same problem. the palls that engage the worm gear and take the line guide back and forth wear out. A temporary fix I use to get me out of bind was to take the barrel nut off and put a sliver of of a gum wrapper in there to act as a shim. First chance you get to go by a Rod and reel repair place you can pick up 4-5 of the palls for a couple of bucks, put them in a sandwich bag and put them in the boat for future emergencies!.

Best fix... put reel down on driveway. Start Truck. Back up and over the reel, put in drive, drive over said reel. Go to BPS buy Abu Garcia. Sorry, the smart @$$ in me got loose. Down boy,down.... back in your cage!!!!!!
