That was a good story. I am sure that there is another bass out there just as big, if not bigger, that somebody has not found just yet...

I think i read that story about two weeks ago for the first time and while it is a shame the record was never made , it shows that dedication to an idea or in this example the pursuit of every bass anglers dream can be rewarding . How many of you reading that story can honestly say you would have released dottie after foul hooking her ?

It's not so much as letting her go, to me that would be the easy part. It's how do you tell the truth that you DID foul hook her and becuase you said you did that, you don't get the record?

The most interesting part is he could have pursuid the record. A foul hooked fish cannot claim the record if it was intentionally foul hooked. The day he caught dottie was an overcast day, fishing in around 10 ft of water, visibility near 0. So he did have an argument if he wanted to try for the record.

The hard part about it would being as upstanding fisherman and sportsman as that guy was. He basically said "there are people that would say I dont deserve the record, so ill just catch the world record bass again and hook it good this time". I would not be so willing to shrug that off.

You also have to remember they had been after this fish for years , if he tried at the recordhe probally would have felt like the years and effort were wasted . But i'm not sure that i under those conditions i wouldn't have gone for the record .

Talking

Quote from obits:
"In accordance with the wishes of the family, Dottie was filleted, rolled in corn meal, and deepfried until golden brown."
