Thanks guys, Since I'm off school now, I think I may try my hand at this. I've got an old two-piece spinning rod I obught frrom a garage sale that had the guides comming loose. It was build by the guy we bought it from. I ended up marking the guides and taking them off. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Just go on ebay and find a good second hand reel for the time being. There are plenty of older Diawas & shimanos on there. Use it short term till you buy the reel of your dreams. Then keep the ebay as a spare in the tackle box. I always keep a reel in bag freshly strung up ready to go.
