Default I will be posting alittle less for awhile!!!

As i begin my guide service i will paying other fourms a visit. Mostly the trout fourms. I am wanting to to get in the heads of some these guy's to see what makes them tick. Captain Mike is there any advice you can give me as i get started. I am grabbing the fly rod more & more. I have'nt grabbed a baitcaster in 2 weeks. Mostly Dink bass & pan fish. But when your fishing the missouri river waters you get every type of fresh water fish biting. The missouri river contains all types of fresh water fish. I went out last night & took a seventeen pound grass carp on the fly. Man was that fun. I am finding fish in all these streams & creaks that feed into the missouri. I am confident in my ablities to put a client on the fish.

My advice is a long list:

Be nice
Get a deposit always
Pre-fish/research
Know some local history so when the fishing is off you can be enlighting
Always arrive early 1 hr if possible
Always fish late if needed
If married good luck and be understanding to survive
Find a niche to fish that no one does and make it fun
Buy lots of useless tackle
Keep boat in good working condition
Be nice (again)
Be patient
Be gratefull

I could go on and on but those qualitys are needed..

The best way to get your name out is to do fishing flea markets and fishing shows.

Oh and lots of pictures.. People love pictures..

Lilmoose, good luck to you. I wish I had the balls (and could afford) to start a guide service. I will miss your posts. Don't forget about us . . .

Right on! If you haven't already, just check with your state's Fish and Wildlife Dept. (what it is called in WA State) and make you there aren't any extra pieces of paper you need to be a guide. Perhaps look into insurance and such to protect you.

Nope all is good on the state conservation thing. They require no special license. My taxes & city businiess license is it.

Man,

You are lucky. My state is fee and tax happy. They're always looking for ways to nail you with taxes. It costs just under $50 just to fish in my state and that is the resident rate.
