Default Befuddled By Mud..

Made it to Lake Hudson, aka "Lake Mudson" this AM for around three hours, to no avail, although we did have numerous hits, one lost at boat-side.

Now, "Mudson" is a muddy lake, very muddy. On a good day you can see around one foot down, although average is somewhere around 8-10". That, the low visibility, is my problem - it psyches me out. In my other home lake, Bird Lake, 15' visibility is average, and I seem to catch bass all the time there, but in Hudson, it's a different story. It seems like if I can't see what is down there, although I know what is if I use my electronics, I can't seem to catch fish.

Does anybody else ever seem to have this problem? What do you do when a piece of water seems to "conquer" you?

Buzzie, one tihng oyu gotta remeber when fishing Mudson is that it is ahead of other lakes stage wise. Since Bird is so clear, the water warms up slower than in Mudson. So, the fish will be in pre spawn, spawn, post spawn, and summer stages in Mudson before they are in a lot of the other MI inland lakes.

we've never had big numbers in Lake Hudson, but All of our bass have come on spinnerbaits a long the shores. Laydowns seem to be key targets for us.

That seems to be the key for us as well, but all the laydowns in the back bay are choked by weeds. I flipped to patches with a Jig today, but moss/weeds covered almost every cast, although it did produce a few hits.

Muddy/murky water warms up faster because it has more suspended particles that help absorb sun rays. Clear warms up slower.

Heavier jigs to penetrate the mats, scent and noise (rattles) ought to help also. Or a noisy *** weedless topwater bait.

This lake has never produced topwater for us. That was a huge surprise for us.

Might give it a try tomorrow morning. Gonna start by cranking aorund in 8-10'. Most of the weeds stop around 5-7', so I was thinking right on the edge shouldn't be too bad.

Does anyone here ever drop-shot real muddy water?

Nope, cause drop-shot is relying on the basses ability to see

I fish a few muddy reservoirs here in Ohio. For the summertime like this, i start with poppers or buzzbaits. When that bite dies (or they're not hitting topwater), i move to spinnerbaits and shallow crankin'. (Chartreuse spinnerbaits, and firetiger crankbaits, or chartreuse/black back) I then fish deeper with plastics and deep cranks.

Stick with keeping your lure close to structure, like the supports on a dock, timbers etc in muddy water.

Thanks, guys.

Ryan, I'll try that man. Crankin' is what I planned on doin', just always seem to push it off because I like to flip and pitch a lot here.

JB, there are no docks, just really shallow timber and weeds. I had a few hits last time flippin' weed clumps in 3-4', but didn't hook anything up. I might try that after the sun comes up.
