Default Prayer request

My great-uncle Guy (my mom's dad's brother) had an accident on his tractor Sunday. He was discing up his garden when he somehow fell or was thrown off, and the discs ran over him. He had multiple lacerations, mainly his legs, a couple on his back, and one hand. Also a couple broken bones, and a punctured lung. Right now, he's in the ICU at University Medical Center where my wife works. They're either doing surgery to fix all the broken bones now, or have already finished....I'm not getting timely reports of any kind.
He lives way out in the sticks, right across the road from my grandmother. My grandfather died almost 4 years ago, and Uncle Guy's wife also died a while back. My aunt lives about a quarter of a mile down the road from them, so either her or other family checks on both of them once or twice a day.
The way he was found was a random lady driving by saw his tractor going across the yard with nobody on it, then saw him lying in the garden, and called 911. His grandson Matthew got there first, then my aunt. The paramedics showed up, and immediately called for a helicopter from UMC. They landed it in my grandmother's front yard (wish I'd been there for that) and flew him to the hospital.
They say he never lost consciousness, and was able to tell the medics his name, age, address, blood type, etc. He told them, "You better hurry up and take me somewhere." The medics said, "Yes sir, we are." He said, "Not fast enough, you aren't."
His prognosis is ok, I think. He'll lose part of one foot and the end of his little finger, but from what I've heard, he's expected to go home at some point once he heals up. Not sure how long that will be, but everyone I've spoken to seem to be pretty optomistic.
Oh, forgot to say....he's 88 years old, and as tough as an old oak stump, just like my grandfather was. Them Darnells are strong people....
So a few prayers for my Uncle Guy would be appreciated.

Ok, got a little more news. They didn't operate like I thought.....our guess is they're waiting for that punctured lung to heal a little before they put him back under. Right now, he's on a ventilator. He recognizes family, squeezes hands when asked, etc. The wounds are of course extremely dirty, and theyre having a hard time getting all the dirt and junk out out to prevent infection and sepsis.

Infections were the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post. That has got to be a huge concern considering how much dirt must have got in the wounds. Praying that they keep him free of infections and the operations go as smooth as possible.

You know he has my prayers Daniel. From the way he talked to the medics, he must be a tough old bird. Thats in his favor for sure. He's a fighter.

Your uncle will be in my thoughts as will you Daniel. Farm type accidents can be horrific, thankfully he was found and taken to the hospital for treatment. 88 and still running a tractor - amazing, I hope I can still operate a TV remote if I get to that age.

Thanks, everybody. I just heard that they're taking him back to surgery to work on the broken bones. Supposed to be a several-hour ordeal. But once he comes out, they're talking about taking him off the ventilator, so he'll be able to talk.
Mom told me yesterday that when the lady that saw the tractor and called 911 got to him, he told her to call his grandson, gave the phone number, and told her to tell the family he loved them, because he wasn't going to make it.
Also found out how it happened....he'd gotten off the tractor to grease the discs, left it running, and it dropped in gear somehow. I keep thinking how dangerous that was, but also how lucky he was. I'm trying to picture what happened in my head....I guess he was standing close to the edge of the disc frame, or between it and the tractor, tried to step out of the way when it moved, and couldn't move fast enough. If he would have been in the middle of it, there's no way he could have survived.
Unlucky, maybe a little foolish, but then very lucky at the same time....

Thanks again, everybody. Just got this off my cousin's (Uncle Guy's granddaughter) Facebook page:

"Papaw is out of surgery and, he did good. They already know that they will be taking him back to surgery on Friday. The drs were able to do the necessary repairs to his arm and elbow as well as clean out the calf wound again. He is going to need a skin graft to close that wound, so they are continuing to leave it open. They also had to amputate another toe and are hoping the circulation will remain good to the rest of his foot. He will remain on the vent in ICU since they will be doing another surgery Friday."

Couple of things: When she said they amputated another toe, I don't know how many he's already lost. I assume 1 before, then this one, but don't know that to be true.
The comment about his foot means that they're hoping his circulation will stay good enough that he'll be able to keep that foot. If not, if there was too much damage to the blood vessels and arteries, he'll end up losing that foot, also.
Definitely thanks for the prayers, everybody.

Had a little setback last night....there looks to be some bleeding in his left lung, plus maybe some pneumonia that they'll fix in surgery today. Also his blood pressure has been acting up, not sure if it's too low or too high....I assume low. Hopefully surgery goes well today, and they'll be able to get him off the vent soon.
