As a young American Voter and a non party affiliated voter( i vote for who gives me the best chance to survive at this point). I can really only put in one opinion on this. I pay for Welfare, Food stamps, low income housing, and low income college grants. I make a very good living not because of what i was given but from what i worked hard to achieve. I still pay for college. I pay my mortgage every month. I pay for bills bills bills. Yet i cannot receive any of the above mentioned government assistance because i chose to make a better life for my wife my 1st child yet unborn and I. With all that being said i still get up everyday and go to work with one thing on my mind. Where the #@$% did i go wrong. There are 8.9 million unemployed people who will sit at home and enjoy my hard work, some deserve-need the help many DONT. I bet allot of you are the same way talk about a WHAT THE #$%^ moment. My advice is free and rarely taken but i would suggest instead of all of us sitting here voicing our opinions we write a letter to our piss poor elected officials whatever your state may be and let them know that they will not be receiving your vote this November. This way instead of all of us wasting our breath on a site that largely agrees with our opinions, we might be heard. Fat chance i know but its a thought.

How much money do you contribute to your Senator or Representative, because he/she ain't listening to you, unless there is a check, a very large, check attached to your correspondence.

I have stayed clear of this conversation, it got too personal to be rational in my opinion.
Guys I have a favor to ask, let's as a group decide to let this thing sleep, at this point it is no longer productive.
There are other sites to passionately discuss politics, let's get back to the fun of talking about fishing.

By the way, could I have a link to where you read the whole transcript of the President's speech at the Roanoke Fire House #1, on July 13th?
It WAS the 13th, got my dates off, FRIDAY the 13th. But anyway here ya go, just like a liberal - getting someone else to do your leg work for ya!

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-...anoke-virginia

Sorry Tav and others, if you are put off by the chatter here, but it is in the area designated as "NON-fishing Related Talk" and I think meets that criteria. Just ignore it, if you do not wish to participate. This is but a small segment of the conversations going on all over the Country and it's ugly. Just look at this thread (what 7 pages now and only a few people) as a miniscule slice of what is going on nation wide, multiply that several million fold and what do you think we have? Trouble, my friend - big trouble. No it won't get solved here but maybe it will bring to the attention of many just how serious a problem we, as a Country, have.

"A Nation divided, cannot stand", remember that one? Well we are again at that crossroads, what happened then cannot happen now as the stakes are even higher. Apeasing one side at the expense of the other will only widen the gap and my entire point has been - that IS what is happing and both sides are guilty of doing so. I have found no canidate in the current political arena that will change that and it worries me, terribly, and I hate to think of waiting until 2016 for the HOPE (and a slim one) of finding one that will. The outlook, from my eyes, is pretty dismal and the breakdown we've witnessed in this thread is a fine example of what I'm seeing in the polarization of the oposing sides and the gap between is growing.

I don't like it, either here or elsewhere, but discussions need to happen to enrage people to action - not in the street [which may be unavoidable, should the staus quo continue - remember the riots of the late 60's when our last, SERIOUS, devisive issue(s) came to a head?] but at the polls. EVERYONE needs to exercise their privilidge to vote, get informed, get active and as suggested contact you representatives. They need to hear from average Joe American not just the small (in comparison) segment of PAC's or the "big money" lobyists that have far to much influence. Average Joe American has been quiet too long (apathy, perhaps) and needs to speak up and get us back on track. Discussions such as this may just enrage a few people (or start a movement) to do just that, or they will ignore it and we will sink deeper into the abyss.

I'm done and relinquish the soap box to another for rebuttal.

"… The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”-- President Obama, Roanoke Fire House#1. By the way Boogie, is that where you actually read the transcript, on the 13th, for the first time? Because when I read that transcript, I have a tough time finding something that is "Un-American"? You shed a tear for "America", but what is "America", if not a community...E pluribus Unum.

...and to descend to "I can't defend my arguments with complex thought, so I will use simplistic images"...

Are you trying to put words in my mouth? Or just twisting things around again, spinning it into meaningless drivel? I never mentioned "Un-American". I did say he offended every American business owner without regard to race, religion or creed in the speech of the 13th.

Quote:
You shed a tear for "America"
ABSOLUTELY, the Country is in serious economic trouble. Our military is streched far too thin in places we should not be. We support Countries (Pakistan as an example) that protect terrorists. In the instance of Packistan they actually jailed the informer that led to the killing of Bin Ladin, yet we still don't cut them off. Our population is polarized by the current administration to extremes not seen since the late 1960's. Yes I shed a tear for America.

Quote:
what is "America", if not a community
A community works together for the common good, not lives off one component. The current Administration is definitely of a Socialist leaning that does not promote community progress, but stagnation as it destroys motovation and initiative of the individual and as the individual falls so does the community. Americal was and should be a community but Obama's policies are turning the American Community into the American Slum.

Quote:
so I will use simplistic images
Wow, kindergarten all over again. At least you didn't use stick figures.

Socialist, Really? talk about simplistic! Was the Inter-State Highway system a socialist program? I didn't invent the inter-net, and it would not have been invented without DARPA, and the government, but my biz wouldn't exist without out it, so how did he insult business?

(By the way, how do you quote multiple times like that?)

Dogmatic, do you ever use anything in your "debates" that didn't come out of Obama's mouth in the previous 48 hours? You're more of a parrot than.....my parrot. It's pretty obvious that your skills in the "independent fact gathering and checking" department are somewhat lacking.

You portray the Interstate Highway System as some sort of "stimulus package." In reality, it was built because we wanted to be able to move our military from one coast to the other quickly if we needed to; i.e. for military reasons. You know, because of Pearl Harbor? The economic boom caused by it was a very nice unintended consequence.

I find it very ironic that Obama would hold this project up as a shining example of an investment in our nations economic interests, when it was originally an investment in military strength, and he is currently trying to gut our military by half. Also, the irony continues further that the Interstate Highway System is one of the reasons we burn so much of that liquid evil gasoline and keep destroying the planet. You would think he would consider it a bad thing. And if the highways are the reason people became rich business owners, why didn't everyone? Apparently, all it takes is a highway. (I hope that highway runs through Hilary Clinton's village.)

As for the internet, yes it was originally just a quaint way that eggheads at universities and scientific entities played around with their newest toy, the computer. But what the government (the taxpayers) invested in the internet during the 1980's cost less than 10 billion dollars. This is a spit into the ocean compared to the hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars commercial entities invested in the new system.

The most disingenuous thing in his speech (to me) was that he said business owners owe their success to our amazing American system that allowed them to thrive. If our American system was so amazing, then WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGED?!?! (Where is Lieutenant Caffee when you need him?) Obama is the biggest sociopath ever to lie his way into office. He will say anything to anyone.

Doc,

You seem to be saying that I am a troll, and therefore your response to me can only lead to two possible conclusions:

1. You're wrong.
2. You can't read and follow your own instructions.

As I strongly believe in Capitalism, for $5.00 I'll tell you.

Quote:

You're confused about Socialism. Your example was a work project for improvement to the Country's infrastructure, similiar to the WPA & TVA in that it put people to work (Socialism is not about putting people to work, it's more directed at dependancy) and the County benefited from the project (return on investment). Socialism does not look for a return on investment, more towards just a re-distribution of the wealth - regardless of what any individual may put in, everyone gets the same thing out, ie: it's all about "social programming", hence SOCIALism. In addition, the Interstate Highway System was multi-purposed. While it was somewhat visionary in enabling Americans to move across the country much quicker than driving local roads; improved interstate transportation of goods via the trucking industry; it also, as NFE mentioned, had a military purpose. In the design of the interstate system one requiement (it's said Eisenhower demanded it) was that every 10 miles (I'm not certain as I haven't researched the subject recently) or so there had to be a minimum one mile straightaway. That requirement was intended to be used as runways should our airbases and ariports be attacked/destroyed. Remember this occured during the "Cold War".

Quote:

You may not be a troll, but you do troll - for smallies and brownies (that's fish people). You can't deny it either, I got pictures of your side planers and downriggers. And just so I understand, is Obama in your view a Sociopathic Socialist or a Socialist Sociopath? I think there is a difference, I'm still trying to figure out what it is.

I'm sorry, but if I were to really say what Obama is, I would surely be banned from this website.

So doesn't it make sense to put any and all tax break considerations focused on the middle class? If they have more money to spend, the big boy's want it and hence more jobs and and hence more lower income folks getting middle income wages and hence the cycle repeats itself over and over making the American Dream the goal of the majority and obtainable for the majority. Hard work can once again be a goal because the dream is obtainable.

Remember, this is just my opinion.
I don't care to listen any longer to any trickle down theories or any other theories for that matter.
Give the money to the people that BUY. Pretty simple if you ask me.
actually demand of a product is what fuels jobs. then someone with the desire to work hard and figure out how to produce that product (employer) is how jobs are created. the fine balance here is that there has to be a happy medium between employer and workers on an acceptable pay scale. right now, that is a problem, because many of our jobs have left the country because the pay scale is too high. just take a look at which states are in the worst financial condition. the majority are heavily union labor and democrats. do not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out there is a pattern to the being broke problem.

Squawk! Funny how my very first post, two days prior to President Obama's speech in Roanoke, is essentially the same theme...there is a "Social Contract" that we all abide by, for the common good, but for some reason corporate America feels they don't have to abide by it, that they owe nothing to the community, or society within which they exist. SQUAWK! (At least I don't sound like Rush).

There's a difference between a social contract/common good and wealth redistribution. The next time there is a natural disaster I want you to look, and I mean really look at who's there helping and where the supplies and materials are coming from. Guess what? Big fat cat corporations that you love to hate are out there voluntarily. Working, sweating, bleeding, crying and praying for those people. Not to mention the ongoing "common good" missions in the communitys they serve. Franklin I really enjoy your fishing related posts and I have no doubt you enjoy fishing. But when it comes to this kind of thing you seem sad.

Oh, you're a right! It was that incredible first responder, Walmart, that I saw the day after Katrina, and BP was right there willing and able to lend a hand after Deep Water Horizon...jeez, I thought it was, the Fire Department, Police Department, National Guard, the Red Cross, and FEMA...my bad.
