Windy day on the lake
Me and Peter fished La Cygne yesterday. Everything we had both seen said windy in the morning and then calming down by about 8am. We got there at about 7:15 and it was windy so we hit the point right across the cove from the ramp. I caught a small one on a jerkbait and then a little bigger one on a Little John. Right when I got mine in the boat Peter hooked a fish on a swimbait, got it to the boat, and it popped off just when it got to the surface. It was probably 5-6 pounds. For the next several hours we fished anywhere we could stay out of the wind, which left up pretty limited since there was 4 and 5 foot waves on the mainlake. I missed a couple on a shakeyhead and caught a couple tiny white bass on crankbaits. By 1 we still hadn't caught another fish so I netted some shad and we went back to the outlet. Even with live shad I think we only caught 5 or 6 more bass. The biggest of the day was just shy of 4 pounds. Wind never did calm down until we were leaving.

Thats a beautiful bass blue! Did you happen to try a spinnerbait? They usually score well for me in rough water like that.

I didn't try a spinnerbait but Peter did. He had one little bump on it but I'm guessing it was probably a white bass.

Good job! Great to see somebody thats not scared of a little wind. 20 yrs ago I used to curse the wind and end up hiding in some little upwind cove mumbling....since I've learned to work with it...I Love a windy day. within reason

When its 90 to 100+ degrees in ETX you couldn't even get a breeze to save your life. When winter sets in you can absolutely count on it.

That sounds about like what we usually deal with. Windy until it gets hot and you'd kill for a breeze and you get nothing. The 4 and 5 foot waves are a fun ride in my 16' aluminum though

Well you've got 2 feet of aluminum length on me! And by no means would I classify it as a fun ride by any means. Any wind above 10-15 mph I just find a cove or anything to help break the wind some or just plan ahead when it finally decides to let up a little.
