Default getting the frog to hop.

i will state this here and now if you are not good with a bait caster do NOT attempt the following..i would not recomend this to bank fisherman.

i have finally figured out how to skip the horny toad like a stone with NO backlash using a baitcaster..

i use a 7 foot heavy action fenwick hmx rod. with a lefty extreme reel using 40 pound calcutta braid.

reel set up is a must. i have the tension set fairly light -frog falls pretty quick- the brakes set at 7 of ten.

i use no weight just the frog the line and the 4/0 hook.now release the line till the frog is even with the bottom eye on the rod-this is critical-using a side arm loop cast fire the cast to make the frog hit the water the first time 30+ feet from the boat. this cast MUST be a high speed -long distance type cast- any closer to the boat and you will get a high jumping single hop. keep an eye on the frog- i have had 5 bass nail it in mid skip-the thumb braking it -kinda like pitchin- i rarely get a backlash doing this.it takes a LOT of practice but it can be done..
i tried this on t-riged baits it also works fairly well with them..
