Default Any computer wizards out there?

I need help setting up a home network. I can't seem to get the router and modem to communicate correctly so that we can get online, and after a couple of days messin with this i've decided I need help.....lol. I'm sure i'm just missing something simple, but i'll be damned if I can figure it out.

I've got a D-Link DSL2320B modem hooked up to broadband dsl.....I can connect to the internet just fine by my computer alone(like I am now)...but....when I hook up my Linksys WRT54G router I can no longer get online....or if for some strange reason I do connect, the connection is terribly slow if it works at all.

I'm just trying to hook up one computer and the Xbox 360 we got for christmas to the network for now, and may add in a wireless laptop later, but for now both my computer and the Xbox are hard wired into the router. I can get the router to see the computer and Xbox, but thats it.

Both the router and modem have default IP's of 192.168.1.1 and I can't help but think this was my problem, so I've tried changing the router to 192.168.2.1 but this didn't help....So i've pretty much exhausted all my networking smarts and need someone smarter than me to help bail me out....lol

Do any of you know what I might be doin wrong?

remember this though. after you get the router hooked up, you will still run a little slower cause you now have 2 computers running. at least ours is that way.

You might want to try uninstalling then reinstaling the software that came with the router. Sometimes the install doesn't take. Then check and make sure your drivers are all updated.

Check your subnet masks. Additionally, on all linksys, there should be a setting for using it as either a router or a gateway.
Also, is your router doing DHCP? (handing out addresses) You may have a conflict with the IPs.
I would also check the firewall on the router.

Your router should have two IP's....one that it receives from the ISP on the WAN, and then your internal 192.168 one that you set.
As far as calling linksys, good luck, they are not known for their customer service. Shoot me a PM and we can talk more in depth on it.
