Humminbird Announcement Today at Classic
I got an email from Humminbird that they are holding a press conference today at 2PM at the Classic to announce a "revolutionary" product.
Of course, they give no hint of what it might be. At this point, I am glad I haven't bought another big fishfinder yet. I can't wait to see what they're adding to their line. Hopefully it is something that makes my 1197 look like a cheap toy.

Seen a preview of the new unit, it is a 360 degree down/side image unit. It is very cool.

Another carrot dangled in front of a mule's nose. And I'm the broke mule!
Breaking news: Hydro-Wave just announced a new unit that plays show tunes and opera that will run fish away from the other competitors.

Wow...the $2,000 price tag is just for the transducer and mount alone.
And aprarently, my 1197 might not work with it...you have to have an 798, 898, 998, or 1198. I hope I'm wrong about that. It would be a real shame if a $600 798 can use it but my $2,500 1197 won't. Oh well, it's still amazing.

Check that out! I found out it will indeed work with my 1197 too. So now all I have to do is sell some organs to science to pay for one.

I've already got the 360 degree imaging . . . . . just mount your SI transducer on your trolling motor.

Saw the video segments from the B.A.S.S. site and I've gotta say I'm impressed but not at the same time. Another stack off the transom, really? If there are already 2 Power Poles or Talons back there, and your in a team or co-angler situation, the poor guy in the back feels like he is in a cage. I know there are times when I will fish parallel the edge of a weed or grass line from straight off the front or back, especially if there is channel or drain closeby. I wonder if it could be incorporated into an existing stack?
Just wondering. Something else to make me go....hmmmmm.

Here is a picture of the transducer. It is much bigger than I had imagined. It has a very large mounting bracket as well.

HB's website says you'll need an Ethernet-capable, Side-imaging unit. The 1197 fits that bill.
The reason they don't list the 1197 is because they don't make them anymore. The only difference between a fully-patched 1197 and an 1198 is processor speed.

Cool, I had read that the requirements were ethernet capable SI and thought that the 1197 would be good to go, but good to hear it from someone else.
How soon before you and your monkey have one?

OMG! That's stupid big...but I'm sure in time they'll make it much smaller. My first cell phone was the size of a lunch box.

You know, looking at that photo, and how big it is, money might not be the only deciding factor here.
I really wish I had a jackplate to mount stuff to!!! Even if it's just money, I don't know if I will swing it this year. If I can keep my wallet out of the monkey's hands until next January, I could be debt-free. Besides, if they're not releasing it until August, how much use would I really get out of it before Winter? I'll probably get one next February.

Well, crap. The official word is out that the 1197 will not work with the 360 at present. Something about the ethernet port being set up differently. I think I am going to add this issue to my "things HB needs to fix to keep me from becoming a Lowrance customer" list.

That transducer looks like an easy and high theft threat. At a couple grand each, that would be one item, if I was CRAZY enough to spend that kind of money for "fun fishing", that would worry me to death about being gone in the morning - like a $5 hooker.

Does it double as a power pole? Wow, that is obnoxious and no way I would have that on my boat.
