Better than Google Earth
We all look for an edge in our fishing, and I know many of you use Google Earth to get satellite photos of fishing locations.
http://maps.live.com/ While it loads a little slower on my computer, the above site has a feature called Birds Eye which is much, much better than even the high res photos on Google earth. These photos I believe are taken from actual planes or helicopters, and they have a large coverage area. You should see if your favorite spots are covered. I know for instance I was able to look at some lakes in Florida that I fish and see individual bull rushes. You can actually see logs laying down too. Its that good.

They dont have full birds eye coverage. Hopefully they will get it, but I'm amazed at the amount of coverage they do have.
And after I posted the thread, I got lost for an hour as well. They have birds eye coverage of Gettyburg.

apparently the boondocks of south arkansas are not a major priority to them (or anybody else) no birds eye here. it is a fun way to kill some time though.

loll @ L6
WTL, that is the sweetest thing I've seen in a while. I'm looking at the pond we just fished and no weeds in the picture. Must've been early spring. BB

You can normally tell by the color of the grass and the leaves on the trees. Also sometimes you will see water levels at different heights.
These things are so detailed that you can scout out new spots or learn things about you old stomping grounds that you never even knew.

I have been using that for a while now. A coworker showed me that for aerial photographs for our line of work. The birdseye view is great to see those dirt roads that lead to some honey holes a little better.

I think the only reason I had bird's eye view of the place we fished was cause it was very close to the turnpike. Still awesome even though I couldn't get BEV on the lakes in MI we fish. (It is Michigan after all)
BB I'm just messin with ya buzzie and all you MI guys.

the pics of my place were taken in fall , i think the only thing google earth has better is real time photos but i think that is only available on the version you subscribe to .

This site is great! There is a lake behind one of the schools in my neighborhood and it shows right up on the birds eye view, I can almost even see a lure I lost in a tree!

I really like that site and use it to scout out new areas even on lakes that I fish a lot. We should start putting up links to our favorite fishing areas. Here are some of mine:
One of my favorite holes (and other people too obviously): http://tinyurl.com/5fndyp Notice the little hump off the point without weeds, it is filled with stumps: http://tinyurl.com/5ogbm4 More favorite humps: http://tinyurl.com/55qvrk And my home lake: http://tinyurl.com/56ueed Where I am headed tomorrow to try out: http://tinyurl.com/5ao8s7 You can use www.tinyurl.com to make the links not so big. BB-You might be able to find old contour maps of the MI lakes here: http://tinyurl.com/mqn3b |
