tips on helping a kid bait a hook

took both of my kids out fishing with my wife and they found a bounch of little blue gills . well tried to fish myself but when you get a empty hook in the face every 2 sec. it is hard to do that . was woundering if anyone had any good tip on helping them bait there own hook . i tried a old tore up plastic worm cut up . but they were having problems with the toughness of the plastic . dont want to kill a bunce of worms if i am not on the water .

crappie jigs or that berkley bait dumb bluegills will eat anything even caught them on gummy worms.

Cam i let my boys use 1 1/2 inch grubs on a small trout hook and that has seemed to help leave it under a bobber as you would a regular worm and like Tryin said blue gill will eat anything .

Why have to prepare and waste food suitable for humans? The "GULP!" stuff will be ready to go at anytime and there will be no need to discard (See: Waste) that which folks can put on a bun. You'll save a ton of money with the "GULP!" too.

I use food source for the kids. The meal worms stay on the hook very well often you can get 3 or more gills off the same worms.

It really depends on the age of the child. For many, simply plan on going for the child and forget fishing with them.

That is also what I do. I focus on them and usually don't even bring a rod. Aside from the amount of baiting and rebaiting and untangle, there isn't time to really fish. Or their attention span evaporates and it's either time to go the the playground or home.

Age too is a factor for me. If they're 3-4 yrs old, I'm baiting it.

I have found that when my daughter (11 years old) wants to go (which is rare), I bring 2 rods. I will try to fish one, but it is now mainly for her to use when she tangles up the 1st one.

I can't wait until my little boy is old enough to go fishing with me. I plan on teaching him very early. Right now he is just shy of 1. I figure I can get him started at around 11/2. He needs to be able to at least have mastered walking before I take him fishing, right?

After this past weekend, I can not say that I have mastered walking. The boat bumped against some sand and I stepped on my extra rod. Of course, mine may not have been the walking part as much the walking on a drifitng boat with a beer in my hand.
If he can not walk yet, at least make sure he can handle his alcohol.....
