Devils Horse
Have two of these old lures and one is a clear ghost model. Sunday night I decided to throw some of these old baits. Darn they are still fine.. But the braided line has a real issue with getting stuck in the front prop.. So I thought how do I fix this?? BINGO a 6 inch piece of 50lb flouro tied in a loop. I looped thru the eye and tied a slip not at the other end to create another loop to attach the braid... the blood knot connecting both ends of the loop rests dead center of the loop. Next cast a toothy big old pickle nails the lure and if I had the braid it would have cut it. Brillant.. Capt Mike

I'm still fishing an original DH that I bought in the 70's. I love those lures. What method do you use on presentation? I've had pretty good luck on a quick pop of the rod, followed by quick reel of the slack, rinse and repeat. The only issue I've had is that with this method, I sometimes have a hard strike that sends the lure airborne while I'm reeling the slack, and my hook set is nuttin but air.

Cast, let settle rings go away, rip about one foot and sit, wait for it, rip twice, let sit, rip once , let sit, rip three to four times, let sit, twitch, let sit, rip six times quickly and let sit. Then slow retrieve.
Topwater is not rhythm it is jazz. Never get into a cadience,,, better to be just crazy erratic in your movement. Capt Mike
