Mid week tourney
Yep, last day before I really return to work so I skipped out this morning and headed to the river for a club midweek. Ran to a main river grass bed and at pretty much dead low tide not much was going on. Threw the toad and P70 and not a sniff. Ran into the creek and hit a sand point and grass line and they exploded on both baits. Unfortunately a couple came unbuttoned and one I think was a decent fish. Hit a couple more grass bed edges and by 8:30 AM I was culling out the shorts. Ran way back into the back of the creek and found cool water, 75 degrees. Main river was 81 and the creek ranged from 83-87. Tide was still incoming but I pulled two good fish out of the grass edges. I probably could have stayed on these fish and culled up some more but I wanted to hit the main river bed again. I worked my way out only to get blanked on the main river grass bed. Oh well. Took off to another creek and found some more short fish. Then they turned on again on the toad but only had a 20-25% hook up ratio. Not good, probably 12" fish, but they were crushing the bait. You can't complain about the explosive strikes. It's just too much fun.
Had to leave early but weighed in 10.3lbs which wasn't too bad. Had one short fish I just couldn't cull out. Pictures coming soon. |
