Agreed. A few regulars have some back lately, but membership needs reopened.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only forum. There are a few well-known forums that are on life support. The latter includes such famous names as Bill Dance and Bass Pro Shops. Bill Dance was a very busy forum in the early 2000s and is where I met my current fishing partner and many online friends.

The bass newsgroup, ROFB (rec.outdoors.fishing.bass), used to be busy and now gets a post every couple of weeks. I guess there aren't enough of us interested in this type of communication; there's no other conclusion that I can draw. But I have no idea why.

Tweet ... text ... lack of time ... there are lots of reasons forums are in decline. I happen to have a job that allows me a few minutes everyday to check into sites like this. But I am an old guy who hates typing on a smart phone. I don't even have one. My phone account has the text feature disabled.
But, the Wife and I used to be online together all the time when I was on the road. She DOES text, and we hardly share online time anymore.

I try to keep content flowing.. with pics and reports but with spring and the great outdoors pulling me away at all hours..well.. Also the ever declining number of fisherman it gets a little stale.. My suggestion is teach kids to fish and put down the phone and gameboys. At some point they will migrate here.

Like salmon returning..

I sure would like to see Kevin open the forum up to new members again. It's unfortunate that all of our complaining about the issues we were having awhile back with the "spammers and bots," forced Kevin to close the site down to new registrations. Membership demanded action against the "spammers and bots" and got what they wanted, unfortunately it also led to the state this site is in today.
Registration needs to be opened again.

I would suggest that we got far from what we wanted. There has to be a way to have membership open and to limit the spammers/bots. It's just that the resources aren't being expended to make it happen. What I'm puzzled by is the resistance to move "the critical mass" to Anthony's site. I know I am a newbie (relatively) and I understand the history and memories of the site, but are those great things retained if we allow the friendship/comraderie/and useful fishing dialogue die with the site?

It isn't just fishing forums either. A lot of the off-road sites I used to be a part of have declined as well. This is an awesome forum with some great people and a ton of knowledge. I don't post a lot, but I check in often to see every bodies pics and pick up a tid bit here and there.

Most know my thoughts on this topic.
WE CAN TALK ALL WE WANT ABOUT IT but seeing most are afraid to e-mail Kevin himself and tell HIM your thoughts it's just another thread.

Frankly I don't think Kevin has been to HIS site for YEARS.

But for those who really care here's the the place to share your feelings.

kevin@bassfishin.com

Good luck everyone! He probably wont even reply....doesn't to my dozen emails sent.

And Capt., Bruce, Woody, nobass and everyone else who has FAITHFULLY been here alot longer then me....THANK YOU!!!!

Oh and Capt. they can't migrate here....KEVIN WONT LET THEM!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Joe. I don't think Kevin cares or has even looked here for a couple of years. It's been great in the past but i don't think there is to much of a future to look forward to. It's still nice to read everybodys posts and replys. Sometimes I even make a comment or two. It's sad to look every day and notice the same post heading for 3 or 4 days. It amazes me the site is still open.

At the very least, the header of this page should be changed to "The Past of Bass Fishing".

Well the migration can happen with referred only members. Kevin would have to approve every one.
On several sites that have this policy.

I stop in once and awhile. Like others have said, it's not on my daily search. But with as busy as my life has been the past couple of years fishing has taken a back seat. Heck, I have my first tournament on Wednesday and I haven't even started up the boat yet. I just put line on jerkbait rod. I still have to spool up 2 more but I won't have time! Those might be done on the water.

There's been lots of emails sent to that address, as well as pm's to his account. I also know of a couple of people who have his phone number that haven't gotten any response that way, either.

I'm sure I will get plenty of hate mail for saying this, but if this site does finally come to an end, I'm sure we will all find another place to share a fishing story or two...

Maybe he would sell it to a conglomerate of members? Not that I'm interested, as many of similar forums are also in demise and BF.com was not set up to make money. Had Kevin accepted sponsorship money and made a profit maybe the interest would still be there. With the spread of other social media, like Facebook, many have found that a preferred way to communicate. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
