Just about everytime I carry a camera with me I get skunked. So, whenever I catch a nice bass I just give her a little smooch, let her go and wonder if Google Earth might have picked it up

well i ain't gonna lie here. i like to eat bass, crappie, rainbow trout among some salt water fish. if it no more than 4-5 # i will clean enough for us to eat for dinner. over that i release. ifn i EVER get one 10 or better....LOTS OF PICS, MEASUREMENTS AND SO FORTH. cause that is gonna be made into a mount, fake mount, but a mount none the less.and yes it goes back for the next time.lol, i can see it now.... many mounts of the same fish. cause if i catch it once, i am gonna go back and try to catch it again. and again.........you get the idea, lmao.

bass wise i am catch and release trout , and other tasty fish will find their way to my grill though but bass wise most of the smaller places are over fished and the larger ones get a ton of tourny fishing so the few places we hit that are local every bass goes back in

I'm with you bama. Most of the bass I let go right away. However, once in a while when I feel like eatting some bass, I'll keep 3 or 4 small 2-3 pounders to fry up. I see nothing wrong with that. And I like a good fried bass fillet, as long as it's a smaller bass.

In my rathole of an apartment just this minute there is the distinct sound of a deep fryer.

There is a definite place for harvesting fish. I will even go one step further, 1 of the fish in the fryer was not legal. I caught it out of a small lake that has way too many small fish. Everyone keeps the little ones out of this lake. As far as I know, state biologists havent visited this place in 40 years so I reject the argument that the state laws regarding the size of fish have anything to do with whats going on in this lake.

I do a nice blend of catch and release and catch and fry....

Some pondds I fish are kinda sketchy as far as eatin fish from 'em, so they all go back. I think all the "release all bass" thing is a load of garbage. If you catch a fish, you know it wasn't factory farmed, and fish meat contains high levels of protein and low fat. I've never mounted a fish, due to lack of cash and lack of fish worth mountin, but if I get a good enough one near payday, it'll be on the wall

As far as bass, yes they are good eating if you don't let 'em sit in the fridge/freezer too long. But most of the time, it's C&R for us. If we do keep some bass it's the ones in the 14-16" range, and nothing bigger. Those ones taste the best anyways.

i've eaten bass twice. not bad. Nothing like fresh fish. Occaisonally ill eat (with fluke, i eat almost all of the legal ones), usually catch and release. If i ever hook into some nice catfish ill eat that too. same goes for salmon.

i pack my camera all the time..skunked or not it aint the cameras fault..

since i average 800+ bass a year i tend to lean to the cpr but there are times when sh!t just happens.. a few bass have found the fryin pan over the years. how ever crappie, cat fish, white perch, and stripers tend to "find the livewell" more often..

Zook, I don't really blame the camera any more than you would blame, say, a banana for a skunk.

What Zook says is true, absolutely true, Buzz. I'd hate to think that just bringing a camera on board would be the real reason for a skunk. That's just ridiculous in a lot of ways. Experience, patience, persistence, presentation, intuition, etc. are more important. Zook's pics and advise prove that. That's just my thoughts...Then again, I've gotten more skunks than necessary this year

Normally I throw them in the livewell to be culled sometime during the day. Or I might take a pic if it's a good fish or something different. Finally I just drop them back to be caught again. Now snakeheads are a different story!!!
