I'm going with the orvis shooting system. I will be able to change out the heads with out changing the line.http://www.orvis.com/store/product_c...&feature_id=17 The whole rig will be a 9/10 weight. Why'll fly line is exspensive you don't change it every season like you do with a baitcaster. I have some reels with 5 yrs old line on them. Keeping them clean is the secert of longevity.

Get a nice, cheap, 4/5 weight at either bass pro, gander or walmart. Fly fishin aint as hard as it looks, and for startin out, a super nice rig doesn't make much sense....In fly fishing, the reel doesn't matter much, but the rod and line are very important....

Just a thought, when you post a flyfishing oriented post, it may help to start the subject with Flyfishing, Then proceed from there. This would give the others interested in flyfishing a heads up. It's a simple thought, I admit, but may alert others who have similar experiences and expertise. I'd participate occasionally if I thought my experience could lend a hand.

I'm NOT just start'n out. I have been doing my whole life. Simple back cast are'nt hard but some conditions need role cast. Then there is the butterfly,Shadow cast, The spey cast & on & on. I shadow cast the most. BPS just does'nt meet my needs when it comes to fly fishing. Cabelas has a bigger selection. But most comes from Orvis. But what do you exspect there the largest flyfishing dealor in the world.

Here Jim is Good rig for the money.http://www.troutlet.com/Martin-Caddi...mbo-P181.aspx# Many people knock cheap rigs. But i'll tell yeah now no respectable flyfishermen knocks Martain. That's because dollar for dollar they make some pretty nice stuff at a cheap price. If bug bites this is a great platform to grow from. Many guy's use loomis & Orvis Rods with Martain reels. So hold on to the reel. Spare spools are less than 15.00.

Did you get a Fly Rig Jim!!! What weight & model did you get. 5/6 weight is your average starting size. This will do bluegill to bass. But if it's hawgs you want to tangle with my suggestion is a 6/7 weight. If want venture in big bass. Hell even Carp you want a staught rig. Carp on the fly is the big thing right now. Look at it as freshwater Redfish.

My first question what type of water are you fishing!!! River / Lake. What type of fly is it dryfly, steamer, nymph. The leader lossed it's tippet more likely from bad false casting. Single handed spey cast & a good roll cast should take care of that. Check this video out.http://www.hook.tv/player.php?key=21DD6CAB2D388614

Lilmoosecountry,
I double you buddy! I fell in love with fly fishing four years ago and have been an avid ever since. I lived for trout until I moved here, (Alabama), for work. Only fly fished for bass three times, but it looks like great fun, especially poppers! FG |

Moose,
I think instead of starting a whole new category, and having it go unused and add yet another page to the forum like WTL stated, we should stick it under the TT&T category. Fly-fishing is an art, per se, or technique, not just a "rod and reel". Sub-divide it under the TT&T category. I guess I'm saying make the "Tips, Trikcs & Techniques" category "TT&T/Fly-Fishing". Make any sense? |
